Summary:
We are looking for a compassionate, energetic, and motivated individual to manage our Overnight Care team at Fur the love of Dogs. FTLOD provides specialized, high-quality care to our clients and their pets and we are in need of someone who is extremely detail oriented to manage a small team of boarding kennel technicians. Candidates will need to excel at effective communication, possess strong customer service experience, as well as strong leadership.
Position Description:
The Overnight Care Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our boarding areas. This role is responsible for kennel staff scheduling, kennel staff hiring, as well as providing training and leadership to existing and new staff members. The Overnight Care Manager will ensure all boarding pets are safely cared for, the facilities are kept clean, and will interface with our clients and other teams within the facility. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently, and lead others while also enjoy the camaraderie of working with all team members throughout the facility. To be considered, the candidate should have a minimum of 1 year of animal related experience and be able to meet the physical demands of the job including lifting up to 50 pounds, able to delegate tasks, stand for extended periods of time, lean over when bathing and walk large dogs. Previous supervisor/management experience is required.
Our furry friends require time, love, and attention 24x7, 365 days a year, including weekends, holidays, and inclement weather. The Kennel manger must have a flexible work schedule during the FTLOD business hours which can range from 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with a focus on evenings, weekends, and holidays. You must also be able to handle dogs of all temperaments and sizes and be on your feet, walking or standing, for all or most of your shift. This is a direct management position that will regularly interact with the animals and staff.
The Overnight Care Manager is a full-time, hands-on position where you will work directly with the animals and your team of kennel staff to ensure that our animals receive the best possible care through socialization, enrichment, a commitment to cleanliness, animal health and wellness, and staff safety.
Skills/Experience Required:
Must be able to effectively respond to calls for services/scheduling; recognize normal and abnormal animal behavior; manage potentially dangerous animals in a safe manner; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
- Must have an ability to remain calm and effective during a crisis event in an emotionally charged environment
- Must have proven management skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse group of team members
- Must be comfortable being around and interacting with animals of all sizes and breeds
- Must have great communications skills both orally and written and be able to adapt to different tones and messaging to meet the needs of different audiences in different settings
- Must exhibit tact in collaborating with other professionals and team members
Coordinates team members scheduling and assignments
-Responsible for supervision, recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and performance appraisals of Overnight Care Staff
- Train and assist Overnight Care Staff to screen incoming animals, administer and medications.
- Ensure all Overnight Care Staff are properly trained in all aspects of kennel responsibilities
- Train and assist Overnight Care Staff in safe handling techniques of animals, cleaning agents and care
-Act as a liaison to ensure quality relationships with all departments
-Recommend and implement changes to ensure the optimal operation of the kennel area
-Responsible for disciplinary actions and/or termination of Overnight Care Staff
-Conduct daily rounds and observe animals throughout the day, identifying and addressing medical or behavioral concerns, making appropriate decisions as necessary, including whether to seek additional or different boarding care
- Ensure that animal quarters and facility are kept cleaned, disinfected, and maintained
- Work with the Overnight Care Staff and volunteers, including but not limited to assisting with cleaning, feeding, animal care treatments and related testing
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date paperwork to include but not limited to medical records and data entry of animal inventory
