Job Summary:
The Director for Women's Leadership and Philanthropy Program plays a key leadership role in Furman University's fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Exec. Dir. of Principal Gifts this position has joint responsibility for design, implementation, coordination, and management of all Women in Leadership and Philanthropy (WLP) programming to include WIN and a newly formed WLP Advisory Council. Additionally, the position has responsibility for a portfolio of up to 100, largely high-level female donors and some of the university's most influential alumni, parents, and friends with an expectation to raise $3MM or more annually. The Director frequently deploys senior leaders in complex, confidential and sensitive interactions and is responsible for increasing engagement with assigned constituencies. The position assumes a close working relationship with the university's alumni and parent engagement office.

Job Description:

Typical Responsibilities Include:

50% Portfolio Management
  • Conceive, develop, implement, manage, and evaluate fundraising strategies to develop women's philanthropy though focused solicitation within a major gift and principal prospect gift level portfolio.
  • Assist other gift officers as they develop an even larger pipeline of women.
  • Work consistently with advancement office research to identify prospective women for leadership and philanthropy.
  • Travel as necessary to develop key relationships with a smaller group of women whose current and potential philanthropy suggests transformational impact for Furman.
  • Work closely with the WIN national chair, the current FU President, and Furman's Vice President for Development.

25% WLP Strategic Program Development
  • Design and implement an industry best-practices Women in Leadership and Philanthropy Program to include the already established WIN initiative.
  • Develop and implement an ongoing strategic program implementation timeline and execution plan in close coordination with Furman's alumni and parent engagement office and campaign leadership.
  • Develop and maintain metrics and outcome evaluations to track measurable engagement, leadership fundraising and impact as well as challenges and developing opportunities.
  • Represent Furman to the larger WLP higher education professional community and collaborate nationally with peers and consultants to evaluate latest trends and opportunities for growth.

25% WIN/WLP Volunteer and Program Management
  • Provide strategic oversight and leadership of the WLP Advisory Council (some former founding WIN members and new leaders) and its executive committee.
  • Engage the leadership in areas across campus to best suit their philanthropic interests and engagement needs.
  • Conceive, create, develop, implement, manage, and evaluate a variety of differently sized campus and regional events designed to build a culture of philanthropy and broaden the base for support, including events which allow men to support women's giving and programming.
  • Collaborating with key volunteers and University Communications, implement and manage a comprehensive social media plan with a dynamic platform presence that integrates WIN with a larger Women and Philanthropy focus to increase connectivity among alumnae for Furman impact.
  • Consult and coordinate with campus-wide senior administrators, faculty, campus partners and advancement office members on ongoing best practices regarding WLP strategy and programming to include the cultivation of current Furman female students.

Relationships:
  • Daily contact with members of own work unit, immediate supervisor, alumni, and volunteers to plan, coordinate, problem solve, present information, and make suggestions related to mutual goals.
  • Daily contact with members of other departments and students to plan, coordinate, problem solve, present information, and make suggestions related to mutual goals.
  • Contact with professional peers at other institutions to exchange factual information and explanation of rules, regulations, practices or functions.

Reports To: Executive Director of Principal Gifts
  • Work is performed independently except where the interpretation of law, policy, rule, complex procedure, or request for exception is required.

Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree or advanced professional credentials such as Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred.
  • At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising or related fields, with a record of successful major gift and planned giving solicitations.
  • High level experience developing strategies to lead programs and projects, working with both university and volunteer leadership. Strong leadership skills that inspire others to initiate well researched and developed strategies and initiatives.
  • Experience in developing sophisticated donor strategy that leads to demonstrated major gift and principal level closed gifts. Sophisticated background in planned giving strategies and concepts. Demonstrated ability to steward major gift and principal level donors in anticipation of the next solicitation.
  • Professional management skills to consult and collaborate to build consensus while operating as a member of a larger team.
  • Experience in organizing and working effectively with high level volunteers to produce desired outcomes while maintaining volunteer satisfaction.
  • Experience or the ability to quickly learn a complex university academic and administrative culture so as to coordinate activity effectively with campus partners.
  • Skill to recognize potential areas of constituency concern and a proven track- record in predictively creating satisfaction.
  • Experience analyzing available data, synthesizing information clearly, creating meaningful reports and making insightful recommendations.
  • Advanced written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to produce information presented appropriately and received well by target constituencies. Effective judgement in understanding a particular individual or audience with the ability to be predictive.
  • Comfort and experience with NXT, data analysis and CRM systems.

Work Conditions:
  • Work is performed under usual office conditions.
  • Regular travel is required.
