Job Summary:
The Web Developer aids the university in reaching its digital marketing and communications goals by updating and maintaining the university's public-facing digital assets while collaborating with University Communications staff to improve the usability, accessibility and efficiency of web content and other digital communications. The ideal candidate is a creative problem solver who will work in coordination with internal teams and external vendors to help develop and maintain Furman University's websites and web tools. Candidates must be comfortable taking initiative on projects and troubleshooting issues, while working independently and carefully documenting/communicating with teammates via messaging, video calls, and project management software.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Oversee all aspects of the university's responsive Wordpress website, including software maintenance, performance improvements, optimization, development, and security.

Create custom Wordpress components, templates, and admin functionalities for the University's enterprise-level CMS and user-editable websites.

Code in-house digital designs using the latest responsive web design techniques to create dynamic digital assets with speedy frontend UI.

Collaborate with digital content and design team members on everything from bespoke digital projects to high traffic enterprise properties.

Work with Information Technology Services staff to develop and maintain best practices for data management and web applications.

Monitor Furman's digital ecosystem for website security, necessary updates, and optimizations.

Look for opportunities to streamline and templatize Furman's website and digital assets.

Work across teams and assist in vendor management on specialty projects as assigned.

Be ready to jump in and solve both small and large digital issues.
- Pursue ongoing professional development in order to stay apprised of digital trends/best practices, mobile, SEO, ADA compliance and security measures.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, Computer Engineering or related disciplines

2 years experience with the following front-end technologies: HTML, CSS, Javascript, jQuery, JSON, Vue

2 years experience in the following back-end technologies/languages: PHP, MySQL
-
Deep understanding of Wordpress development, including custom themes, plugin development/maintenance, site optimization, best practices, and current trends
-
2 years of experience with cross-device development, optimizing user experience, web usability, ADA compliance, as well as web administration and maintenance
-
Ability to work independently and support all technical needs outlined by the Assistant Digital Marketing Director

Experience building out dynamic pages in HTML/CSS/Javascript from wireframes and mock-ups

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and experience translating designs into responsive web pages

Proficiency with Google Webmaster Tools and other website testing and debugging platforms

Ability to create validated, well-documented code as well as user guidelines

Ability to research problems, separate symptoms from the actual cause, and identify opportunities to correct the situation

Experience producing and/or consuming web services with data integration through Web API and ETL tools
- Demonstrated capabilities through a web-based portfolio of recent work
