Senior Merchandiser – Furst-McNess Company
We are seeking a Senior Merchandiser to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing rail & truck origination, ensuring accurate documentation and transparency in all trades, and building strong relationships with local, regional, and national customers. This role requires experience in grain merchandising and origination, a clear understanding of regional market dynamics, and a driven mindset with a high level of integrity.

Key Responsibilities:
Merchandising & Origination
- Execute day-to-day grain origination & trading activities, ensuring all trades and real-time positions are transparent and accurately documented
- Originate sufficient grain supply via rail & regional trucks to meet the demand of the grain cleaning and bagging business – maintain high standards of product quality and consistency for end-user customers
- Coordinate with logistics management to ensure efficient transportation and delivery of products
- Effectively execute hedging activities, ensuring compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and risk limits to protect against price volatility and market fluctuations
- Conduct regular risk assessments and performance evaluations of existing hedging strategies, making adjustments as necessary to align with market conditions and company objectives
- Prepare and present detailed position reports to leadership, highlighting key risk indicators, hedging performance, and recommendations for strategic adjustments
Customer Success:
- Build and maintain key relationships with local and regional customers
- Help develop and promote a sound farm marketing program with various contract offerings tailored to local farmers’ needs
- Work with the team to build relationships with regional and national industry partners
- When necessary, work cross-functionally with accounting to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payments to farmers and commercial partners
Qualifications:
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to execute in a team environment
- High level of integrity – ability to earn the trust of others
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, or related Ag degree, or the equivalent in related work experience along with 10 years of experience in merchandising and origination
- Proven experience in commercial roles within the agricultural sector, specifically related to grain and/or ingredient merchandising/trading
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
