Enterprise Architect

Position Summary

FusionSite Service is a rapidly growing midsize organization that operates exclusively in the cloud. We are a metrics-driven business, committed to leveraging data to inform decisions at every level. We are seeking our first Enterprise Architect to establish a strategic, cloud-native vision utilizing Microsoft Azure. In this role, you will define and maintain architectural standards, design scalable Azure-based solutions, and drive innovation to support our continued growth. You will also partner closely with our Data Analytics team to enhance our enterprise data warehouse, ensuring the data infrastructure meets evolving analytics needs. Additionally, you will shape and influence the future organizational structure of the IT department—helping build the right teams, processes, and culture to support our technology roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

1. Define the Cloud-First (Azure-Centric) Architecture

• Establish and implement an Azure-focused enterprise architecture framework, emphasizing resiliency, scalability, cost-effectiveness, and data-driven decision-making.
• Assess our Azure environment, identifying opportunities to optimize performance, security, and reliability using quantifiable metrics.

2. Strategic Technology Roadmap

• Develop a multi-year roadmap aligning technology initiatives with business objectives, placing Azure services at the core.
• Research and recommend emerging Azure capabilities (e.g., Azure AI, AKS, Azure Functions) and use metrics to evaluate their impact on efficiency, cost savings, and innovation.

3. Data Infrastructure & Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) Enhancement

• Collaborate with the Data Analytics team to evaluate and enhance our enterprise data warehouse architecture, ensuring it meets current and future analytics requirements.
• Drive improvements in data ingestion, transformation, and storage processes by leveraging Azure services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics).
• Define and implement best practices for data modeling, data integration, and data quality, aligning these with overall enterprise architecture standards.

4. Influence Future IT Department Structure

• Provide strategic input on the evolving organizational design of the IT department to ensure the right skill sets, roles, and processes are in place.
• Collaborate with IT leadership to identify staffing needs, team structures, and governance models that support a cloud-first, data-driven culture.
• Mentor and guide emerging leaders within the IT department, contributing to succession planning and talent development.

5. Governance & Best Practices

• Implement a governance model tailored to Azure, ensuring compliance, cost optimization, and operational resilience.
• Create architectural standards, guidelines, and processes that help teams deliver secure, high-performing cloud solutions consistently.
• Champion a metrics-driven culture by defining key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for architectural initiatives and data infrastructure projects.

6. Solution Design & Integration

• Guide solution architects and development teams in designing Azure-native systems, leveraging microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
• Oversee integration of Azure-based tools and services, ensuring seamless data flows and minimal downtime.
• Use data analytics and performance metrics to refine and improve application and data integrations continuously.

7. Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

• Partner with business leaders, product managers, and project teams to translate requirements into Azure-centric, metrics-oriented solutions.
• Work closely with the Data Analytics team to identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency gains within the enterprise data warehouse and data pipelines.
• Communicate complex Azure architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, using relevant KPIs and data points to illustrate value.

8. Leadership & Mentorship

• Lead by example in Azure best practices, coaching teams on DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud security within the Azure ecosystem.
• Encourage a culture of experimentation, continuous improvement, and data-driven decision-making, providing regular feedback based on measurable outcomes.

9. Risk Management & Compliance

• Identify and address security, regulatory, and performance risks associated with a fully Azure-based infrastructure.
• o Ensure compliance with relevant data protection laws and industry regulations (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS), measuring the effectiveness of security controls and processes.

10. Metrics & Performance Analysis

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and track KPIs related to system uptime, performance, and cost, including data warehouse performance metrics.
• Regularly analyze metrics to identify trends, optimize architecture for performance and cost, and proactively address potential bottlenecks or risks.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.

Experience

• 7 years of experience in IT roles such as solution architecture, systems design, or software development.
• Proven track record of designing and implementing Azure-based enterprise architectures for cloud-only or heavily cloud-focused organizations.
• Experience managing complex projects, including cloud migrations, microservices architecture, or large-scale SaaS implementations on Azure.
• Demonstrated ability to lead or participate in metrics-driven initiatives, using data to drive architectural decisions and continuous improvement.
• Background in data infrastructure and data warehouse projects, with proven expertise in collaborating with analytics teams.
• Exposure to or direct experience with organizational development, particularly regarding IT team structures, roles, and processes, is a strong advantage.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

• Deep expertise in Azure services (Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Functions, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, etc.).
• Proficiency in cloud-native design principles, including microservices, serverless computing, and event-driven architectures within Azure.
• Strong command of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, ARM templates, Bicep) and DevOps methodologies (CI/CD, containerization) in an Azure environment.
• Familiarity with security frameworks, Azure Security Center, compliance standards (ISO, SOC, PCI-DSS), and data protection regulations.
• Understanding of metrics-driven performance optimization, capacity planning, and cost management in Azure.
