What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiber Optic Technician position at Future Infrastructure?
Responsibilities:
- Fusion splice SM or MM outside plant loose tube, inside plant tight buffered, and ribbon fiber optic cable
- Prep, dress, and store fiber optic cabling to specifications and assemble equipment according to design specifications
- Preparation of armored and non-armored cables, ribbon and loose tube fiber and mid-sheath applications
- Perform live fiber cut-overs during maintenance hours
- Ability to troubleshoot damaged fiber effectively and efficiently
- Proficient in using fiber tools and fiber optic test equipment including fusion splicer, power meter OTDR, VFL and Traffic Identifier
- Ability to read, understand and update splice documentation and maps as required
- Perform other duties as required
Skills and Qualifications Required:
- 1-3 years of fiber splicing and testing
- Working knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of fusion machines, OTDRs, power meters and tools of the trade
- Organized, with a strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently or in a team environment & communicate professionally with co-workers and customers
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Requires a mixture of day and night work.
- Must have a Valid driver’s license
- Be available for 7 day / 24-hour stand by on-call rotation as needed
- Ability and willingness to work long and unpredictable hours if required, including work after normal business hours in the event physical restoration of fiber plant is needed
- Ability to climb up and down ladders and operate a bucket truck if needed
- Willingness to operate within a schedule that is subject to inclement weather conditions
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
Education:
- High School diploma or GED
