Position Summary:
The Project Engineer Serves as a project manager for capital and expense projects of all sizes. This position also provides technical support to the Production and Maintenance Departments. The successful candidate will work closely with Production, Maintenance, Environmental, Health and Safety teams to develop and execute projects for the facility.

Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement projects which improve the profitability, operability, reliability, safety, and environmental performance of the St. James Plant in accordance with Business Plan and Plant Specific objectives.
- Plan and lead the efforts of the project team through the development and execution of projects.
- Develop the scope of projects, evaluating options, and obtaining management approval.
- Obtain funding for the projects.
- Opens, manages and closes projects in SAP and periodically reports status to management.
- Reporting progress and forecasting costs on a regular basis.
- Prepare bid specifications, evaluate bids, and select engineering and construction contractors.
- Monitor / manage the design and construction of projects to ensure that they are engineered and built according to key project plans and company standards.
- Monitor / control the cost & timing of projects to keep expenditures and schedules within the limits authorized by management.
- Manage the start-up of projects and project closure activities in a safe and timely manner so that the project benefits can be fully realized.
- Provide turnaround support, troubleshooting and engineering analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred.
- Experience: 3 years' experience in a chemical processing or refinery environment.
- Skills:
- Strong commitment to personal safety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with the exceptionally broad array of people having diverse backgrounds encountered during the life of a project.
- Broad generalized knowledge of chemical, civil, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control engineering. Broad generalized knowledge of industry design codes, standards, and practices.
- Broad generalized knowledge of personnel safety, process safety, and environmental principles / regulations.
- Project management and administrative skills necessary to plan, organize, coordinate, and control the development and execution of a project – including cost and schedule control.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of a structured project management or project development and execution process a plus.
- Excellent technical and problem-solving skills to identify alternatives to challenges presented and select the most appropriate solution with minimal guidance or precedence.
- Work Environment: This job operates in an office setting within a plant.
- Physical Demands: This role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
