The Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners has an immediate need for qualified applicants for full-time Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT)/ Fire Fighter within the County’s Emergency Services Division. Gadsden County Emergency services hires both single certified EMT’s as well as dual certified EMT/Fire Fighters. Incumbents will work directly under a Shift Captain, providing basic pre-hospital medical care to the citizens and guest of Gadsden County. In addition, duties also include the operation and maintenance for ambulances/ fire apparatus. Full-time staff work a work schedule of 48 hours on duty and 96 hours off duty (48/96). Part time employees have a flexible schedule working 12,24, or 48 hours shifts. Part time employees are required to submit a minimum of 48 hours of availability each month. The county offers all full-time staff a county benefit plan along with a retirement plan within the Florida Retirement System (FRS).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Check in units at the beginning of each shift, maintain inventory control throughout shift; advises lead paramedic of needed equipment and supplies, maintain vehicle to fully operational readiness in compliance with state and division standards, insuring supplies, cleanliness, and preventive maintenance. Receive dispatch instructions. Operate an ambulance expeditiously and safely through traffic in accordance with defensive driving techniques and various weather conditions; adhere to traffic regulations governing emergency vehicle operation. Assist the paramedics with patient care. Fire certified personnel will be responsible for the above along with maintenance of fire apparatuses, provide fire suppression, and rescue activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Licensed as a Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Florida with the Department of Health. State of Florida certified Fire Fighter I and II, Possession of a valid State of Florida Class E driver’s license along with documentation of completion of the Emergency Vehicle Operations course (EVOC). Basic Life Support (BLS).
