General Laborer / Flagger

Gage-It Construction is an established and rapidly growing Southern Oregon company, specializing in highway guardrail, cable barrier, and concrete barrier is looking for a skilled General Laborer to join our team.

The General Laborer will perform physically demanding work in the installation of all phases of highway construction, maintenance and repair of guardrail, cable barrier, concrete barrier, and road signs.

Regular travel throughout Oregon is common and requires employees to live in motels during the workweek. Weekends/night shifts may be required depending on contract requirements and emergency repair work.

This position will work closely with team members, Operators, Foremen, and Project Manager(s) to ensure every action performed is completed with high levels of safety efficiency and quality.

This position will be performed outdoors, with possible exposure to extreme temperatures and inclement weather as well as exposure to a variety of hazards (i.e., loud noises, live traffic, etc.), associated with highway maintenance and repair work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works closely and communicates effectively with Team Members, Operators/Foreman and Operations Manager to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Follows directions diligently and immediately communicates with superiors when there are any issues or concerns with the directives received.
  • Act as a team leader through leading by example, managing and communicating directives given by superiors, and completing all project goals.
  • Communicates thoroughly with superiors prior to starting any project, in order to receive clear direction, objectives, and goals and to gain a thorough knowledge of area operations.
  • Performs a variety of labor tasks necessary for completing a project. Labor tasks vary and are specific to each project.
  • Spend the majority of the day standing/walking while performing physical labor and traffic control.
  • Will frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift and move objects weighing up to 60 lbs. (i.e., materials, tools, equipment, supplies, etc.).
  • Manually operate the Company’s vehicles, tools, and equipment on a regular basis while performing various labor tasks in an assigned area.
  • Ensure that the proper safety procedures are being followed for the classification of the work being performed.
  • Clean and maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment after use.
  • Flagging as needed.
  • Other duties as required by Foremen/Project Manager(s).

Requirements/Experience:

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of staff, state/government agencies, prime contractors, and members of the community.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Must be willing to travel (Intrastate travel required).
  • Weekend shifts/night shifts may be required.
  • Must adhere to set schedules and follow all directions diligently.
  • Must have passed the OSHA 10 online training course and have knowledge of safety procedures, including, but not limited to, hand tools and chemicals.
  • Must be able to lift 60 LBS on a regular basis.

Special Provisions:

  • Must have Valid Driver's License.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be enrolled in the company’s random drug testing program.
  • Must pass a pre-employment functional exam.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment agility test, drug-screen & background check.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES – TRAFFIC CONTROL The Traffic Control Flagger will have a current Flagger card and experience with flagging, set up and take down of traffic control devices, and exceptional communication skills. A keen attention to detail, safety of everyone in the traffic control area, as well as knowledge of rules and regulations of the work site is mandatory in this position. When it is necessary to stop traffic and/or reduce traffic speeds to protect a construction crew working in the vicinity of live traffic, a flagging station needs to be established. Flagging procedures, when used correctly, can provide positive guidance to the motorist traveling through the work area. Flagging should only be used to control traffic when other methods of traffic control are inadequate to warn and direct drivers. Flaggers have the following duties to uphold: ·

To direct traffic through traffic control zones ·

To protect the lives and property of all drivers ·

To protect workers (without endangering the flagger) ·

To create a safe separation between the motorist and the work activity ·

To courteously and intelligently answer questions from the public when asked. - Travel to job site(s) where traffic control is required. -

Traffic planning, staging, set-up and take-down of traffic control devices, including placing signs, barricades, traffic cones, and other warning devices. -

Safely direct traffic through the project limits. -

Complete daily traffic control reports as required on a project specific basis. - Load and unload trucks and lift materials. -

Be observant of the surroundings at all times to ensure the safe movement of oncoming traffic. This requires an employee to be in good physical condition, including sight, mobility and hearing. -

Communicate with co-workers via two-way radio to facilitate traffic movement. The communication must be firm yet courteous. -

Effectively communicate problems and/or concerns to the Foreman and/or Supervisor. -

Other duties as required by Foreman, Traffic Control Supervisor, Operations Manager (Signs)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
