Position Overview:
The PATH Certified Riding Instructor will be responsible for planning, leading, and evaluating safe and effective therapeutic riding lessons for individuals with a variety of physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. Candidates with either PATH CTRI (Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor) or PATH ESMHL (Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning) certification are encouraged to apply.
The PATH Certified Riding Instructor will be responsible for planning, leading, and evaluating safe and effective therapeutic riding lessons for individuals with a variety of physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead individual and group therapeutic riding lessons tailored to the needs and goals of each rider.
- Ensure the safety of riders, horses, volunteers, and staff during lessons by adhering to PATH International standards.
- Collaborate with participants, families, and staff to establish and assess goals for each rider.
- Assist with horse selection and preparation for lessons, including tacking and grooming.
- Train and supervise volunteers to ensure proper support during lessons.
- Maintain accurate records of rider progress, lesson plans, and attendance.
- Support the care and well-being of program horses by observing their behavior and reporting concerns.
- Act as an ambassador for GaitWay Therapeutic Horsemanship by fostering positive relationships with riders, families, volunteers, and donors.
Qualifications:
- Current PATH International certification as a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) or Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (ESMHL).
- Experience teaching therapeutic riding lessons, with a commitment to promoting safety and inclusivity.
- Strong understanding of equine behavior, horse care, and stable management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals of all ages and abilities.
- Ability to collaborate as part of a team and adapt to the needs of a dynamic program.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Familiarity with PATH International standards and best practices.
- Additional equine-related certifications or training is a plus.
Working Conditions:
This position requires outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends may be required to meet program needs.
