Referral Coordinator

Office Hours 7:15am to 5:00pm Monday-Thursday 7:15 am to 2:00PM Friday
Summary/Objective:
Courteously and efficiently represents the medical office to the public in performing the duties as assigned to assist patients with their medical needs.
Essential Functions: Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
- Obtains appropriate medical chart and information on patient from medical personnel prior to contacting appropriate insurance carrier for referral information.
- Verifies accuracy of all demographic and insurance information in computer system for patient.
- Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility for patient in relation to obtaining referral number.
- Documents referral information in medical chart for future reference.
- Documents referral information in computer system for future reference and appropriate billing procedures.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of referral approval or disapproval.
- Discusses referral process with patient and notifies patient of referral process status until process is completed.
- Maintains sound knowledge of insurance programs of which the medical office participates.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist other personnel in the performance of their duties as assigned and as workload permits.
- Function as relief for other personnel in the office as appropriate and to facilitate co-workers absence in the office.
- Recognize and demonstrate cost-effective measures in utilization of supplies and equipment.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality of all company records, including verbal and written records.
- Other duties as assigned by Regional or Site Manager.

- Maintain confidentiality of all patient, medical, financial, and legal information.
- Report to work on time and as scheduled.
- Wear identification during work hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Switchboard and computer literate.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
Preferred:
- Two to three years medical receptionist experience.
- Medical terminology and experience are helpful.
