What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Writer/Manager position at Gales General Service Center?
Reports to: Owner or District Manager
Hours: Full-Time
We’re growing and have just purchased a new location in Freeland — and we’re looking for the right person to help lead it.
Purpose & Objective:
The Manager/Writer role is critical to the overall success of the business. This individual is the keeper of our values, enforcer of standards, and the leader our team follows. You will lead and manage all aspects of the shop — including selling repairs and ensuring the store opens and closes on schedule. Your leadership will directly impact team performance, customer experience, and shop profitability.
We are a “do what it takes” kind of company, and we’re looking for someone with that same mindset — someone who leads from the front and isn’t afraid to jump in wherever needed.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage the shop’s staff to meet company objectives and sales targets. Uphold company values, systems, and expectations. Handle scheduling, payroll processing, and employee performance coaching in coordination with the admin office and owner.
- Shop Workflow Management: Maintain quality standards and an efficient workflow using systems such as the workflow board, shop software, and company best practices. Support the foreman by managing technician workloads and dispatching work to maximize efficiency and results.
- Sales: Sell repairs and services to clients in alignment with company guidelines and goals. Drive sales performance while maintaining trust and transparency with customers.
- Cost Control: Monitor shop spending and find ways to reduce costs without sacrificing service quality or shop performance.
- Customer Service: Address and resolve customer complaints and negative feedback with professionalism. Ensure promises made by the team are fulfilled. Coach staff on best practices for delivering excellent customer service.
- All-Hands Mentality: No task is too small — whether it’s running a shuttle, cleaning a restroom, assisting at the counter, or grabbing a part, this role steps in wherever needed to keep things moving.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2 years in a management or supervisory role
- 1 year of experience in sales or proven ability to sell and communicate value
- Strong organizational skills and ability to stay focused in a fast-paced, high-distraction environment
- Comfortable with computers, including typing/dictation, Windows systems, email, spreadsheets, and general office software
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Basic math skills and calculator use
- Must be able to get in and out of vehicles independently
- Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to transport customers if needed
