POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is located in the Gallatin Rest Home and is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and supervising the rest home's nursing services and functions; develops policies, procedures, and standards regarding resident care, facility operations, abuse prevention, reporting requirements, etc; provides education and training to employees and performs a variety of other related duties. The position reports to the Gallatin Rest Home Administrator and manages other nursing personnel.
NURSING ADMINISTRATION AND PLANNING- Conducts short and long-range planning to meet the goals and objectives of the nursing services function within the Rest Home, adjusts staffing plans to meet immediate or short term needs for nursing services, and resolves a variety of problems associated with management and coordination of a large nursing staff in an institutional setting.
- Directs and oversees the provision of nursing care services, promotes quality of life, and ensures quality resident care.
- Ensures compliance with professional standards and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, requirements, and guidelines.
- Conducts investigations regarding received complaints and ensures successful resolution.
- Reviews resident medical charts with nurses to ensure quality assurance in care provided.
- Coordinates and participates in resident care conferences.
- Monitors rest home operations and compliance with federally mandated standards and laws, and updates policies or procedures as necessary.
- Develops policies, procedures, and standards regarding resident care, facility operations, abuse prevention, reporting requirements, etc.
- Researches and coordinates the development of new programs and services related to patient care, trends in the nursing and medical professions, changing guidelines, survey results, and treatment needs of residents.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING- Develops and presents monthly staff in-service training sessions.
- Provides counseling, coaching, and other problem resolution training to facilitate the establishment of good working relationships between staff members.
- Assists the Rest Home Administrator in developing fire, safety, and disaster and emergency preparedness policies and procedures, and ensures personnel awareness and compliance
STAFF MANAGEMENT AND PERSONNEL ISSUES- Manages nursing services personnel by orienting staff with residents and programs, explaining policies and procedures, conducting recruiting and scheduling activities, assigning and reviewing work, and completing formal evaluations of staff on an annual basis or when job performance changes significantly.
- Resolves various personnel issues by counseling staff, conducting mediation activities, and other methods to establish and maintain effective working relationships among nursing staff.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor. This includes participating in special projects, occasionally filling in for supervisor, participating in ongoing training, and a variety of other functions as needed. If the County Commission proclaims a local emergency due to an actual or threatened disaster such as an earthquake, fire, riot, flood etc., County employees may be required to provide services during the emergency and for a subsequent period of assessment and recovery.QUALIFICATIONS
This work requires knowledge of concepts and theories of professional nursing, education and training, public administration, and supervisory methods and techniques; skill in managing staff and programs; and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Position requires knowledge of office operations and equipment, computer skills and record management, must be able to maintain the integrity of sensitive and highly confidential information; not participate in gossip; exercise courtesy and tact in receiving the public and staff, and in giving and obtaining information in person and over the phone; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in nursing, and licensed as a Registered Nurse, plus four years of progressively responsible nursing experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity.
Licenses and Certifications: Applicants for this position must possess a valid driver's license, and to be insurable under the County's liability policies.SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
