Duties :
- The Galveston College Law Enforcement Academy Instructor prepares and presents Texas Commission Law Enforcement (TCOLE) basic police academy and in-service training classes and assists in the development of class curriculum.
- Teaches and coordinates courses in competency areas in the Basic Peace Officer Program; participates in the total instructional program of the collegeDesigns and maintains an active classroom environment conducive to student learning and success.
- Provides advice and assistance to students regarding instructional or program-specific issues.
- Plans, develops, and uses various teaching methods and materials that assist cadets in meeting course objectives.
- Adheres to State Record Management and Reporting requirements.
- Assists in the scheduling of facilities, including the firing range, and driving track.
- Coordinates as necessary with Academy staff on all observed cadet performance and conduct issues.
- Knowledge of all processes, procedures, and protocols in the Basic Police Officer Program, and related trends, issues, and accepted practices.
- Good technical skills, including proficiency in a variety of computer and software programs and applications.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
- Good organizational and planning skills.Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse college community.
- Ability to train, inspire, and motivate cadets in a learning-centered environment.
- Working environment will be a combination of inside and outside, in wet and dry conditions, and will include areas that are considered dangerous or hazardous, including a firing range.
- Requires maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, or walking for prolonged periods, as well as for bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, jumping, and climbing.
- May be required to carry, push, pull, drag, or hold medium to heavy weight objects of up to 50 lbs.
