General Description
The purpose of this class is to perform financial and compliance audits of county departments, courts, programs and or services.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Establishes the scope and objectives of the audit
Conducts background research to become familiar with the business purpose of department, division or unit.
Conducts interviews with management and staff to determine the current state of internal controls.
Conducts statistical analysis of the business activities surrounding the department of court being audited.
Compares and studies relationships among data.
Prepares electronic work paper files and documents findings and recommendations based on observations and statistical evidence.
Analyzes financial records to determine trends in business activities and to identify anomalies.
Creates charts to articulate the workflow process to help identify any control weaknesses.
Performs risk assessments to identify areas of concern.
Develops an audit programming detailing the specifications of the field work.
Researches, gathers, analyzes, and evaluates audit evidence.
Performs accounting functions such as compilations, account analysis, reconciliations, journal entries, etc.
Verifies the department’s or court’s compliance with statutes, policies and procedures.
Documents findings and recommendations based on observations and statistical evidence.
Prepares written audit reports.
Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related major.
Requires two years of experience in government auditing, billing, budget development, accounting, general finance operations or closely related experience.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
The work is typically performed in an office.
