JOB OVERVIEW
Six Mile, LLC is seeking an Environmental Coordinator to ensure compliance with environmental health and safety regulations at our Kodiak, AK facility. This critical role oversees hazardous waste management operations to protect personnel, infrastructure, and the local ecosystem.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Manage and oversee end-to-end hazardous waste lifecycle: collection, identification, processing, and disposal
- Supervises the Hazardous Waste Technician(s)
- Conduct weekly facility inspections per 40 CFR 260-265 standards
- Train 150 base personnel annually on HAZCOM standards (OSHA 1910.1200)
- Pick up hazardous waste and associated paperwork from various departments on the Base, and ensure the quality of information on Hazardous Waste Identification Sheet (HWIS).
- Perform certain classification qualitative testing on items (pH testing, flash point testing, etc.).
- Perform lab packing duties if applicable.
- Perform safe operation of an articulating forklift (Case M4K).
- Write spill reports, if applicable.
- Regular use of drum dollies, cargo straps, banding, shovels, pallet jacks, power tools and other tools.
- Position requires constant physical activity, including bending, consistently lifting and carrying 50 - 70 pounds, reaching and gripping.
- Perform ancillary support to station Spill Team, including on-call duties after hours and possible night shift duties.
- Agrees with and adheres to the Standard Operating Procedures and tasking responsibilities of the Waste department.
- Displays self-motivation in physically challenging and atypical work environment; position is comprised of approximately 70% outdoor tasking.
- Supports the achievement of USCG metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position's work activities.
- Complies with all USCG Environmental Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance, requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
- Works to achieve USCG goals and contractual commitments.
- Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
ABOUT YOU
Requirements
- College degree in related field (4 additional years of experience will substitute)
- 3 years hazardous materials management experience in the past 5 years
- Strong computer software experience
- Ability to wear a respirator
- Valid Driver's License
- Physically able to be active for 9 hours daily
- Must be able to lift 50-70 pounds safely and perform functions requiring repetitive motion
- Able to supply manual labor (shoveling) for several hours if needed.
- Able to maintain flexibility and a positive attitude in a dynamic, fast-paced work setting.
- Ability to be detail-oriented and meet a high level of quality control regarding highly regulated hazardous wastes.
- Ability to learn and follow all ACA, EPA, NRC, IMDG, DOT, State, rules and regulations regarding hazardous wastes being shipped.
- Ability to complete all documentation and tracking with a high degree of accuracy.
- Able to relocate to Kodiak, AK
- Ability to pass a background and drug screening.
