JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: CAD Draftsman

BACKGROUND: GapVax, Inc. is a Johnstown, PA manufacturer of vacuum trucks, municipal sewer cleaning trucks, trailer-mounted jetter equipment and related equipment. For each machine produced, engineering develops 3D models and detailed shop drawings for body fabrication and chassis layout as well as hydraulic, pneumatic and water schematics. The Draftsman will work as a member of the Product Development Team to design, develop, produce, maintain, and support innovative new product solutions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT:

• Utilizing CREO Parametric and/or AutoCAD Inventor, provide layout, design, assembly, and detail drawings and associated documents for new products.

• Write, maintain, and issue product bill of materials through the ERP system for each project.

• Review and approve the integrity of parts and assemblies for manufacturing with production leaders.

• Help resolve engineering related problems through fabrication, manufacturing, and vendor supplied components.

• Hold review meetings with shop floor personnel and follow new products through production at GapVax and with outside vendors.

• Maintain design and production records for each project.

• Perform calculations such as weight and balance as needed.

• Work with end-users to troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions or design issues.

REQUIRED SKILLS

• Ability to use CREO Parametric and/or AutoCAD Inventor for solid modelling design.

• Functional understanding of hydraulic, water, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

• Ability to work with shop floor technicians, supervisors, and the engineering department.

• Ability to communicate technical matters clearly verbally and in writing.

• Working knowledge of MS Excel and ERP systems.

• Ability to understand and take directions from staff design engineers to produce designs, models and drawings that meet the engineer’s design intent.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• 3-5 years’ experience in manufacturing. Experience in a welding and fabrication environment a plus.

• An associate degree from a two-year college or university is desired, but not required. Equivalent experience will also be considered.

• Experience reading and understanding work orders and product sheets.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Hands-on working with production and product testing is required.

• Must have high standards of quality and pride in work.

• Ability to learn the operation of all types of truck mounted vacuum and jetting equipment including hydro-excavators, combination sewer cleaners, and air vacs.

• Able to solve problems and think analytically.

• Must be willing to travel occasionally to understand how products operate in the field (e.g. demos, startup trainings, and trade shows).
