Garden City Community College is a vibrant and dynamic community college located in the heart of the rural Southwest Kansas high plains region. Officially designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution, the College serves a student population which reflects the area’s rich diversity. The College serves approximately 2,000 students across multiple populations including on-campus, online, and area high schools and has a history of strong program options in both transfer and technical education. The College is located in Garden City, a community with a recent history of robust population growth. Garden City has many amenities including arts and culture, plentiful shopping, and daily jet service to Dallas.
Garden City Community College’s Technical Education and Workforce Development Division seeks a faculty member to develop and lead a program in Electrical Technology, aligned closely with the college’s Construction Technology and Industrial Machine Mechanic program. This faculty position requires a passion for sharing the opportunities skilled trades provide for students and have an enthusiasm for working with students of all skill levels, ages, and experiences. The position will teach topics such as electrical theory; print reading; residential, commercial, and industrial wiring methods; and safety and electrical codes in both laboratory and lecture settings.
The teaching assignment may include daytime, evening, weekend, and/or hybrid online instruction. The typical teaching load is 5/5 or 30 credit hours per year. This is a tenure track, full-time (172-day) faculty position covered by the Negotiated Agreement. Supervision is provided by an Assistant Dean, the Dean of Technical Education, and the Vice President for Instructional Services.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Work with Construction Technology and Industrial Machine Mechanic faculty and Technical Education administration to develop a program (learning outcomes, courses, program outcomes, etc.) that meet the Kansas Board of Regents program alignment in Electrical Technology.
- Teaching assigned day, evening, and/or weekend courses using established standards and course syllabi.
- Develop and continually enhance robust skills in best practices for teaching and learning. The college provides financial support and compensation incentives for professional development in teaching and learning and subject matter areas.
- Remaining current in subject matter and in the techniques most effective to promote student learning including developing strategies for the future.
- Providing individual and group facilitation of learning, diagnostic assessment of students, and identification of appropriate learning materials.
- Participating in course and curriculum design, student advisement, program review, advisory council, and division activities as required to maintain and improve the learning program.
- Participate robustly in the faculty job expectations—Appendix A of the Negotiated Agreement
- Demonstrating initiative and actively recruiting students for the program.
- Participating in staff and college meetings and contributing through appropriate committee assignments.
- Performing other relevant tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills:
Required:
- Five years of industry or instructional experience with recognized industry credentials/certifications
OR
- A degree (two- or four-year) in the electrical technology or a related field
Preferred:
Preference will be given to those candidates who establish the highest level of professional competency as evidenced by:
- Experience in secondary or post-secondary education
- Experience in curriculum development and program content
- Knowledge of instructional design for online learning including Canvas, Blackboard, and other learning management systems.
- Record of established industry partnerships
