SUMMARY:
The Corporate Security Assistant will be primarily responsible for assisting the Director of Corporate Security in the day to day operation of the Security Command Center and Courtesy Patrol Teams. Key duties include assisting with parking management, supervising contracted dispatch and courtesy patrol staff, coordinating with the Maintenance Department in regard to maintenance dispatch issues or concerns, and assisting with maintaining on site security at all properties within the Garden Communities Family of Properties (the “Company”). This position has access to highly sensitive proprietary information and business plans of the Company, and requires a high level of discretion and absolute confidentiality in regard to confidential business information and trade secrets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Security Assistant’s duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Under the direction of the Director of Corporate Security, assists in the day to day operations of a 24/7 fully functioning and effective Security Command Center to maintain a safe and secure environment for residents and staff. Ensures the security of equipment, information, and property of the Company from any safety and security threats.
o Liaison between the Company and security vendors.
§ Coordinates contracted dispatcher staff
§ Coordinates all aspects of executing the security detail at all assigned properties
o Works closely and effectively with Community Managers, including Regional Directors, General Managers, Property Managers, Leasing Managers and Gym Directors, to ensure security concerns are identified, investigated and remedied.
o Handles escalated security issues reported by residents or staff.
o Conducts regular training meetings for Guards, Dispatchers, Patrol Drivers, and Field Supervisors.
o Will oversee training of new contracted Courtesy Patrol and Dispatch employees- On the Job Training (OJT).
o Expected to work evenings and weekends upon request.
o Acts as Dispatcher during heavy call volume periods, or solo Dispatcher when needed.
o Trained on software applications- CCTV, Communications and Reporting.
o Expected to fill in as Courtesy Patrol for special events or when needed.
o Oversees and supervises towing vendors engaged to assist the Company with security matters.
· Oversees the Company’s Parking Program
o Communicates pertinent parking regulations and information to staff, residents and vendors
o Receives and responds to questions about parking, and resolves or recommends solutions to parking problems
o Determines vehicle parking assignments for staff, residents and vendors; issues parking decals and approves special passes for appropriate persons. Maintains inventory of all properties’ parking matrices.
· In collaboration with guard service, Security Assistant may need to act as a security officer on behalf of the Company.
- Performs security patrols.
- Enforces safety and security measures on site.
- Investigates and writes reports on accidents, incidents, suspicious activities, safety and fire hazards and other security related situations.
- Provides assistance to customers or residents following the Company procedures while on patrol.
· Regularly visits all Southwest Region Company properties to inspect and address parking and security needs and issues.
· Acts as point of contact for onsite and outside security professionals regarding operations, emergency response activities and corporate needs.
· Reports criminal activity information to proper authorities.
· Assists Director of Corporate Security to identify and address security weaknesses and recommends improvements.
· Support the Human Resources team with investigations resulting from criminal activity, misconduct or employee policy infractions.
· Assists with maintenance of all records and reports related to parking, security and dispatch.
· Handles special security assignments, as needed, including coordinating and monitoring special event security coverage.
· Attends weekly management meetings.
· Provides weekly email schedule forecast and project report, summarizing work activities for the week (including projects completed or status) to Director of Corporate Security with a copy to Vice President at the end of each week.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
· At least a high school diploma or the equivalent i.e. GED, required.
· At least 2 years of professional-level security experience required.
· CDCA BSIS Security Guard Card, required.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIRED:
· In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
· Knowledge of SilverTrac software database, a plus.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
· Regularly required to sit, stand, walk properties, lift, pull, bend, squat and reach.
· Must be able to operate standard office equipment (computers, phones, copier, fax machine or scanner), mobile phone, and do filing.
COMMUNICATIONS:
· Must be able to effectively communicate (orally and written) in a respectful, professional manner on a regular basis with prospective residents, current residents, staff, management and co-workers within the company as well as with outside vendors. Must be able to work as part of a team. Follows instructions and responds to management’s direction. Takes constructive criticism and uses it as a learning tool.

· Is reliable and consistently at work and on time; willing to travel, and work evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed.
TRAVEL
· Travel may be required within the Southern California Region and Arizona.

Pay range: $29-$43.80/hr.
