Reports To : Assisted Living Supervisor or Resident Care Coordinator

Position Overview :
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Lead Medication Technician (Med Tech) to join our team in an assisted living community in Arizona. The Lead Med Tech will be responsible for supervising the medication administration process, leading a team of medication technicians, and ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of medications to residents in accordance with their individual care plans and physician orders. This role requires a strong attention to detail, excellent leadership skills, and a passion for providing high-quality care in a supportive and respectful environment.

Key Responsibilities :
Medication Administration and Oversight :
Lead and oversee the accurate administration of medications to residents in accordance with their care plans and physician orders.
Ensure medications are delivered on time, including scheduled medications, as needed medications, and PRN (as needed) medications.Monitor residents for any side effects, adverse reactions, or changes in condition related to medications, and report findings to the supervisor and healthcare team.Ensure proper documentation of all medication administration, including times, doses, and any changes to prescribed treatments.Maintain strict compliance with Arizona state regulations, medication storage, and handling procedures.Leadership and Supervision :
Supervise and provide guidance to a team of medication technicians and caregiving staff, ensuring they follow medication protocols and provide safe care.
Provide ongoing training and support to new medication technicians, helping them develop their skills in medication management and resident care.Collaborate with the nursing team and other healthcare professionals to coordinate medication-related tasks and ensure residents’ needs are met.Quality Control and Safety :
Conduct regular audits of medication administration records (MAR) to ensure proper documentation and compliance with regulatory standards.
Monitor medication storage areas to ensure that medications are stored correctly and safely, following guidelines for temperature control, security, and organization.Assist with medication inventory management, ordering, and proper disposal of expired medications.Resident and Family Communication :
Serve as a resource for residents and families regarding medication-related questions or concerns.
Communicate with residents’ families as needed to address medication changes, side effects, or any other concerns regarding their loved ones’ care.Ensure that residents understand their medications and are aware of any instructions or side effects, promoting independence and informed decision-making.Regulatory Compliance and Documentation :
Ensure that medication administration complies with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all medications, treatment plans, and related activities, following all legal and regulatory requirements.Assist with preparing for and responding to audits or inspections by regulatory agencies, ensuring full compliance with all safety and medication handling procedures.Shift Work and Coverage :
Provide shift coverage as needed, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, to ensure continuous medication administration and resident care.
Assist in managing staff schedules and ensure the facility is adequately staffed to provide consistent, quality care.Qualifications :
Education and Certification :
High school diploma or equivalent (required).
Certification as a Medication Technician (Med Tech) in Arizona (required).CPR and First Aid certification (required).Current Arizona Caregiver certification (required).Experience :
Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medication Technician, preferably in an assisted living or long-term care environment.
At least 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience (preferred).Experience with medication administration, documentation, and regulatory compliance in a healthcare setting.Knowledge of Arizona’s assisted living regulations and best practices for medication management.Skills and Abilities :
