What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at Garrett County Lighthouse, Inc.?
Job Duties:
1. Updates at the beginning of work shift by: a) emptying and reading all correspondence from personal mailbox; b) reading and responding to email; c) checking-in on team bulletin board.
2. Establishes a professional, caring relationship with all the people served by the team. Has awareness of and is sensitive to each person's (and of co-workers’) cultural, racial, and ethnic background.
3. Performs daily cleaning and maintenance of designated facilities, parking lots, and grounds (i.e. sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, wiping, scrubbing, dusting, emptying of trash, maintaining recycling centers, etc.). Ensures all spaces are clean, neat and free of health and safety hazards. Uses proper safety equipment including goggles, gloves, etc. when appropriate. Responds to unexpected cleaning and maintenance needs including spills, breakage, broken glass, leaks, breakdowns, unexpected repairs, bathroom accidents and other unplanned events that need immediate attention to ensure health and safety standards are maintained.
4. Performs regularly scheduled cleaning on a weekly, biweekly or monthly basis as assigned, including washing of windows and blinds; spot cleaning rugs; cleaning of floors; etc.
5. Ensures that designated facilities have necessary supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc., where needed. General clean-up.
6. Performs seasonal maintenance of the outside property including weeding, planting, mulching (spring/summer), raking leaves, snow, and ice removal, etc. (fall/winter). Ensures safety and security of buildings, along with Property Manager.
7. Completes all required paperwork, including timesheets, mileage sheets, and inventory records, when due.
8. Helps the agency Property Manager with special projects in other parts of the agency as directed and responds to special situations throughout the agency as requested.
9. Attends meetings as required. Focuses on meeting all COMAR, CARF, HIPAA and other regulatory
requirements. Attends certification/recertification training as scheduled. Completes all other training as scheduled/assigned.
10. Performs other tasks related to the overall scope of the job as assigned.

Qualifications for this Position:
1. High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree allows for annual education stipend.
2. Cleaning and/or maintenance experience preferred.
