Description
Garrison Forest School seeks a creative and dynamic individual for a full-time fifth-grade teaching position in our Lower School, starting in August 2025. This is a one-year role with the possibility for renewal. This position reports to the Head of the Lower School. The salary range for this position is $45,000-$75,000 based on years of experience and education level; the exact compensation will be discussed during the hiring process.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate best practices by using a variety of instructional strategies that engage students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills; these include flexible grouping and individual differentiated instruction, thematic teaching, and experiential/discovery learning
- Demonstrate experience shaping curricula and pedagogy that reinforces equity in teaching and learning
- Demonstrate intentional and purposeful integration of technology in the curriculum as well as an understanding of digital citizenship and the ethical use of technology
- Use assessment tools effectively to promote student learning and growth, analyze data, and make strategic, instructional decisions from such data with support from the Academic Resource Coordinator
- Serve as a member of the homeroom teaching team responsible for developing, planning, and implementing classroom/grade-level curriculum, including our signature “Capstone” project.
- Demonstrate a professional passion for reading acquisition, strong literacy programming, and experience using a variety of multi-sensory instructional approaches
- Demonstrates expertise in deepening student conceptual understanding in mathematics, ensuring students develop strong number sense, flexible thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Utilizes strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and families
- Possesses a patient and thorough understanding of early childhood developmental milestones and behaviors to create a nurturing and supportive environment for each student.
- Work with teachers and administrators in planning Fifth-grade graduation and other milestone events
- Contribute to the life of the School by fulfilling assigned Lower School duties as well as one-weekend activity for the Residential Life program
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- B.A. degree in Elementary or Early Childhood Education or equivalent – Master’s degree desirable
- Prior experience working with children in a school
