What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Records Specialist position at Gaston County Government?
The Gaston County Police Department was created by Legislative Act on July 1, 1957 and began operation with a chief, a secretary and 23 sworn officers. At that time the Department was primarily responsible for providing police service to the unincorporated areas of the county. Since that time, however, additional duties and responsibilities have been given to the Gaston County Police. Today, the Department employs over 150 sworn officers who provide police services to a community of approximately 90,000 residents and spanning an area of over 270 square miles that along with the unincorporated areas of Gaston County also includes providing police services to the incorporated towns of High Shoals and Spencer Mountain.Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalency with a minimum of two (2) years of clerical experience involving intensive typing/data entry and related records maintenance is required.
The position requires the physical ability to sit for extended periods of time and to perform ongoing production oriented operation of keyboard devices or VDT's (video display terminals) where speed, accuracy, and volume of work are the primary factors.
Must become DCI certified within six (6) months of employment date and remain certified in order to continue employment. The candidate selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
- Data entry of police reports, arrest records, citations, warning tickets, etc.
- Assisting in the maintenance of warrant files
- Maintaining domestic violence order files
- Maintaining all police records
- Answering Crime stoppers phone lines
- Providing local agencies with pawn shop inquiries
- Must acquire and maintain DCI certification throughout employment
- Performing NCIC validations
- Providing other clerical support as requested.
