Definition
The Director of Data Systems and Analytics performs a variety of duties and responsibilities in support of data use in the Accountability department. Work is directed by state or local procedures or Board policy.
Duties and Responsibilities
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Serve as senior member of the Accountability team by providing support in accessing data and analyzing and reporting on data to support customer requests or project requirements
- Develop and maintain a district-wide data platform, providing timely access to data at the student, teacher, school, and district level
- Oversees data collection, analysis, and summarizing results.
- Partner with district leaders to develop a system for developing key performance indicators for measuring academic and operational goals
- Adhere to quality control processes and protocols to ensure that data are being stored, accessed, queried, analyzed and reported in accurate and appropriate ways, reflecting best practices in the field
- Analyze technical requirements specified by the user community and design the required data structures and reports to support those requirements
- Access data warehouse tables, develop data models and code for reporting needs
- Design reports and visualizations to support continuous school improvement efforts
- Develop technical solutions. with optimal performance, by executing performance tuning.
- Fulfill internal and external customer requests for ad-hoc data
- Work collaboratively with department members to develop and deliver training on data literacy and analytics tools
- Assumes other special tasks/duties as assigned by the Chief Accountability Officer
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- In depth knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel and Google Workspace, specifically Sheets
- Knowledge of Student Information System (SIS)
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of grammar, spelling and vocabulary.
- General knowledge of common word processing, spreadsheet and file maintenance programs.
- General knowledge of the principles of organization and administration.
- Excellent proofreading and editing skills.
- Ability to analyze data, determine possible options, and make appropriate decisions based on the facts and specific situations.
- Ability to use sound judgment in working with difficult situations and under short time limits.
- Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to compose formal written business communications.
- Ability to generate computer reports; such as spreadsheets, tables, charts, mail merge from spreadsheets and databases.

Minimum Training and Experience
- Minimum College level diploma required.
- Preferred advanced degree in statistics, computer science, computer programming, database management or related fields
- Preferred 5 years of experience
- Expertise in advanced analytics tools and methodologies
- Strategic leadership experience
- Must be willing to learn the NC Accountability Model
- Must be willing to learn extensive software applications.
Physical Requirements
- Must be physically able to operate various equipment including computers, scanners, copiers, calculators, etc.
- Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
- Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
- Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color.
- Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas using spoken words. Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able to communicate via telephone.
