The HSE Manager is responsible for developing, organizing, implementing, administering, and monitoring all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs. The manager will identify HSE hazards, establish controls to mitigate risks, and develop and maintain safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities (to name a few):
- Provide strategic direction and oversight to ensure ongoing compliance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including training and record-keeping activities.
- Establish, implement, and maintain ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and the Gates' HSE Management System.
- Serve as the primary contact for third-party management system audits at the facility, accountable for audit findings, resolving root causes, developing corrective actions, and providing audit responses.
- Conduct regular site audits and inspections, and assist with corporate HSE internal audits.
- Interpret and advise on relevant legislation to ensure compliance.
- Interface with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies, as well as corporate and insurance carrier representatives, to ensure compliance.
- Identify, develop, perform, and track HSE/CI training requirements.
- Establish and maintain a contractor HSE program to manage risks associated with contractor activities on-site.
- Develop and maintain an Emergency Response Plan for potential emergency situations, conducting regular drills and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Create and manage budgets for HSE activities, quantifying the cost of incidents with appropriate cost justification.
- Direct investigations on environmental and safety incidents, including near misses, injuries, releases, and non-compliance, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
- Drive initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing processes, including hazardous/solid waste minimization and reduced water/energy consumption.
- Manage all requirements related to chemical management, including chemical approvals, GHS-compliant labeling, employee training, and proper disposal.
- Establish goals and targets focused on HSE risk reduction, injury prevention, waste elimination, and energy conservation.
- Coach staff in completing TIPSS/incident investigations.
- Communicate with staff and employees to drive alignment and consistency with company goals.
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Management, Engineering, Business, or a closely related field required.
- 8-10 years of Health, Safety, and Environmental experience required,
- Previous manufacturing experience preferred.
- Training in Ergonomics, Machine Guarding, and First Aid Responder certification.
- Experience with behavior-based safety programs (e.g., DuPont STOP) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of safety and environmental codes, OSHA 1910, EPA regulations, and other regulatory agencies (Lockout-Tagout, Electrical Safety, Ergonomics, Air Quality & Emissions, Energy Management, etc.).
- Experience with Lean Problem Solving (8D or A3 tools) and Root Cause Analysis (5 Why Analysis).
- Experience with permit administration and management (e.g., Title V Air Permit, Storm Water, Industrial Waste).
- Proven background in HSE recordkeeping, reporting, and compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.
