Position Overview
The Student and Family Support Coordinator works closely with school leaders, staff, parents/families, and students to support students’ academic, wellness, and behavioral success and to foster a safe, supportive and inclusive school culture.
The Coordinator collaborates with the Assistant Principal and Student Support Team, to support student success and a positive school culture through the Advisory program, Restorative Practices and Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS). The Student and Family Support Coordinator also collaborates with school leadership to plan and facilitate family engagement activities and to partner with families to support student success.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Student Behavioral Support, Interventions and Restorative Practices
- Collaborate with the Assistant Principal to support school-wide behavior expectations and develop and improve systems for behavior intervention;
- Support students with resolving conflicts through the use of restorative practices;
- Support students with behavioral goals through PBIS interventions and strategies;
- Communicate with staff and families regarding student behavior, interventions/actions and follow-up;
- Keep accurate records, tracking progress and documenting all conferences, and family contact;
Student Support Office Coordination and Support
Serve as a point person in the Student Services Office, managing intake of students and providing support to teachers;
- Co-manage the Student Support Office, ensuring resources and systems are in place to ensure an orderly flow
- Provide student supervision before school, at lunch, during passing periods, and after school
- Partner with parents/guardians to support student progress and/or connect students and families to school and community-based resources
Coordination of Culture Building Activities
- Collaborate with school leaders, Student Support team and Culture and Climate team to plan for positive culture building activities (e.g. assemblies and positive recognition; career and college exposure activities)
- Family and Community Engagement
- Collaborate with school leaders to plan and implement family engagement activities and events (back-to-school night, conferences, family groups, affinity celebrations)
- Partner with family council leaders and school leaders to facilitate family voice and involvement in the school
- Coordinate communications with families (e.g. through weekly newsletters or posts) about family events & resources
- Partner with Enrollment Director to support family partnership and outreach efforts
Qualifications:
- Commitment to Gateway’s unique educational mission and to equitable outcomes for all students
- Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds and learning profiles
- Ability to work collaboratively with a dedicated staff and involved parent body
- Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills
- At least 3 years experience working with middle school students in an urban school preferred
- Prior experience in a relevant role preferred
- Bilingual candidates and BIPOC candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
- BA or BS degree; advanced degree in education preferred
- Evidence of strong organizational, student management and interpersonal skills with students and families
Compensation and Benefits:
- This is a full time position with a comprehensive benefits package.
- 10-month, school year calendar position
- Salary range of $65,000-78,000, dependent upon experience
