DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Director of Educational Services/Designee to assist in the development and implementation of the After School SAILS Program at each site; provide a safe, supervised and structured learning environment for students.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position requires expertise commonly associated with the general supervision and instructional support of children participating in the After School Program.

DEFINITION

This position requires expertise commonly associated with the general supervision and instructional support of children participating in the After School Program.
Essential Functions
- Work with Grant Program Specialist.
- Rotate to each site once per day.
- Provide Site Coordinators and Group Leaders with assistance.
- Assist with homework and be liaison with classroom teachers.
- Be an emergency contact for Site Coordinators.
- Assist with Behavior Plans and/or modification as needed.
- Assist with monthly newsletter to parents and teachers.
- Work with Grant Program Specialist to coordinate activities and arrange speakers and guests for the sites.
- Assist with Family Literacy Trainings and Parent Involvement Activities.
- Attend and assist with grant personnel staff meetings and trainings.
- Help coordinate purchase of materials
- Be academic leader/advisor for site coordinators and group leaders.
- Help organize curriculum
- Set routines and rules for homework assistance time
- Provide texts from each grade in each subject as well as resource materials
- Other duties as assigned.
- Work five (5) days/week, minimum 3.00 hours/day (Assignment to begin after completion of normal work hours.)
Knowledge of:
- After School Program objectives;
- Legal mandates, regulations and guidelines pertaining to the program;
- Academic and social needs of at-risk students.
- Communicate effectively in oral and written forms;
- Supervise other staff;
- Organize tasks;
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Learn program rules, methods and processes;
- Establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, students, parents and collaborative agencies.
A combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.
Education
- Valid California Teaching Credential.
- Two years successful classroom teaching experience.
- Recommendation of site administrator.
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
- Persons performing services in this position will exert 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
- This type of work involves sitting most of time, but will involve walking or standing for extended periods.
- Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate business related equipment, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
