Job title Electrical Superintendent
Reports to Vice President of New Construction
Job purpose:
The Electrical Superintendent is responsible for the overall planning, execution, and supervision of all electrical work on new construction shipbuilding projects. This includes managing electrical contractors, ensuring compliance with all electrical codes and regulations, and coordinating with other disciplines to ensure timely and efficient project completion.
Duties and responsibilities:
Responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to:
· Contract Management:
o Participate in job capture and estimating phase as the marine electrical advisor.
o Manage and supervise electrical contractors, including subcontractors, to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
o Act as a liaison with Engineering regarding electrical specifications and design processes.
o Review and approve all electrical submittals (estimates, drawings, materials, equipment, etc.).
· Planning & Scheduling:
o Develop and maintain the electrical construction schedule, ensuring timely completion of all milestones through a streamlined execution plan.
o Coordinate with other disciplines (structural, piping, outfitting) to ensure proper integration of electrical systems.
· Quality Control & Compliance:
o Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, identify and resolve issues, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
o Ensure compliance with all applicable electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards (NEC, ABS, USCG).
o Assist in the development and implementation of electrical quality control procedures.
· Problem Solving & Troubleshooting:
o Troubleshoot and resolve any electrical problems that may arise during construction.
· Safety & Training:
o Participate in safety meetings and ensure all electrical work is performed in a safe and responsible manner.
o Train and mentor electrical personnel (apprentices, journeymen, etc.).
· Procurement & Logistics:
o Assist in the procurement of electrical materials and equipment.
· Communication & Collaboration:
o Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.
o Communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
· Documentation & Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of all electrical work (daily reports, inspections, testing).
o Assist in the development and implementation of production procedures and processes.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
· Experience: Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in an Electrical management capacity in shipbuilding or a related industry. Proven track record of successful project management and good results in quality, schedule, and cost objectives.
· Technical Skills:
o Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices.
o Extensive knowledge of all applicable electrical codes and regulations.
o Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and other technical drawings.
o Proficient in the use of relevant software (e.g. AutoCAD Electrical, E3.Series, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS project or other project management software).
· Leadership & Management:
o Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
o Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team.
o Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
o Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
· Safety:
o Commitment to safety and a strong safety record.
o OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health Certification preferred.
Education and Experience:
· Electrical Engineering degree or certified relevant education from an accredited technical college or school, or significant relevant technical experience to ensure technical discipline and trade knowledge.
· A minimum of 10 years’ related experience and/or training in a marine electrical manufacturing environment.
