What are the responsibilities and job description for the COAL QUALITY CONTROL TECHNICIAN - 1070025201 position at GCC?
This position begins through a staffing agency and requires MSHA training. The initial training consists of four 10-hour days over several weeks, starting at 5:30 a.m. Upon completion of training, the position will continue with a schedule of four 10-hour shifts. The staffing agency partnered with GCC will provide the MSHA training at no cost, it is a prerequisite for employment.

Under the direction of the Operations Coordinator the Coal Quality Control Technician performs tests on the mined coal to assure conformance to GCC Energy and customer defined standards.

Experience and abilities you will need:
- High school education or higher with emphasis on science.
- Ability / willingness to do physical work in all weather conditions while collecting coal samples.
- Two years’ experience working in lab environment preferred but not required.
- Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percentages.

What you will do:
Under the direction of the Operations Coordinator the Coal Quality Control Technician performs tests on the mined coal to assure conformance to GCC Energy and customer defined standards.
- Collect coal samples from the surface processing operations as defined in the coal sampling procedure document.
- Conduct coal sampling procedures in strict accordance with the coal sampling procedure document.
- Advise Operations Coordinator of unusual test results or results that don't meet specifications.
- Maintain a safe working environment, adhere to safety policies and practices, perform daily housekeeping of assigned area, perform daily workplace inspections, and adhere to GCC policies.
- Be familiar with MSHA safety rules, lockout/tagout policy, confined space, emergency response plan, arc flash/shock and burn protection, proper containment and disposal process for lubricants, paints/solvents, and other environmentally sensitive materials.
- Calibrates, verifies, and maintains all laboratory equipment, both analytical and physical
- Performs tests in accordance to ASTM, and internal SOPs
- Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment
- Ensure work performed meets department standards, participate in continuous improvement system, observe, and promote best practices, good time management and be able to troubleshoot/analyze root cause failure.
- Ensure Roll crusher, pulverizer, and swing arm sampler are maintained in good working order at all times.
- Work where and when needed as directed by plant supervisory personnel to meet mine needs.
