GCI's Senior Project Scheduler is responsible for assisting Project Managers by providing project scheduling, project controls, project tracking, resource management, and schedule status reporting support. Duties also may involve project cost control work, requiring the ability to work with and understand budgets, asset coding, and elements of overall project monitoring.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALL LEVELS:
  • Prepare and keep a master schedule for project plans and sub project plans for monitoring and tracking requirements. 
    • Scheduling includes creating a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), resource loading, and establishing task order and dependencies.
  • Update master and subproject plans and dependencies with new information as changes occur, e.g., timelines and delays.
  • Stay abreast of changes to requirements.
  • Assist Project Managers in creating short-term schedules, monitor schedules to determine impact on master schedule, and help formulate actions to correct scheduling and resource conflicts.
  • Analyze critical path and constraints to determine effect of changes to schedule and recommend work-around. 
  • Conduct analysis to determine alternative courses of action or recovery on slipped schedules.
  • Provide information as needed on the content, modification, or presentation of the project schedule. 
  • Identify and record the impact of work performed and not performed as scheduled. Evaluate actual work progress and provide regular schedule updates.
  • Interface with stakeholders to discuss impact of work and problem resolution.
  • Contribute to the development of preliminary schedules for estimating prior to proposal dates, which sufficiently illustrate the sequence of work activities and contract time.

Grade: E07

Additional Job Requirements:

This is a senior level position functioning as the subject matter expert (SME). Requires the ability to perform highly complex or unique special work assignments under deadlines and operating constraints. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring industry knowledge. Works autonomously under minimal supervision. Goals are generally communicated in solution or project goal terms. May provide leadership for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: *A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, economics, industrial management/engineering or related field. *
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in project scheduling, project construction, telecom installations or related field, to include: *
    • A minimum of one (1) year in an office/home office environment

Preferred: 

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Telecommunications experience. 
  • Other telecom industry or job specific certifications. 

 

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

  • This position may require access to reliable transportation for occasional travel between retail store locations, offices, worksites, or other locations as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS:  
  • Work is primarily sedentary, requiring daily routine computer usage.
  • Work consists of simultaneous or overlapping deadlines in an environment of ever-changing technology and workforce development.
  • Travel to or within the state of Alaska, including remote sites throughout Alaska, may be required.
  • Travel may include small aircraft, harsh arctic conditions, and overnight stays in locations lacking more than basic services.
  • Ability to work shifts as assigned, work in standard office/home office setting, and operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to accurately communicate information and ideas to others effectively.
  • Physical agility and effort sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.
  • Ability to make valid judgments and decisions.   
  • Available to work additional time on weekends, holidays, before or after normal work hours when necessary. 
    • Some weekend and holiday work may be required to meet deadlines and support remotely located personnel.
  • Must work well in a team environment and be able to work with a diverse group of people and customers.
  • Virtual workers must comply with remote work policies and agreements.
The company and its subsidiaries operate in a 24/7 environment providing critical services to Alaskans and may need to respond to public health and safety matters or other business emergencies. Due to business needs employees may be contacted outside of the core business hours to respond to the immediate emergency. As such, you will be requested to provide emergency after hours contact numbers, to include your home and cell phone numbers if you have those services.
