SUMMARY
A manual machinist is someone who operates machines to produce precision parts and components that are used in various products and equipment. A manual machinist typically uses manual machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other hand-held tools to shape, cut, and finish metal parts to exact specifications.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Studies blueprints, drawings, and engineering specifications to determine methods and sequence of operations to fabricate product.Assembles parts into completed units, using jigs, fixtures, hand tools, and power tools.Lays out and verifies dimensions of parts, using precision measuring and marking instruments and knowledge of trigonometry.Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.Designs fixtures, tooling, and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs using CAD system.Evaluates experimental procedures and recommends changes or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.Inspect parts using a variety of inspection tools, and tests completed units for detect defects and ensure conformance to customer / Industry standard specifications.Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair.Meets Job Run Times and objectives in a timely manner.Establishes work procedures for prototype parts to be turned over to manufacturing for high volume production.Confers with engineering, supervisor, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.Performing routine maintenance as needed.Safety and OSHA compliance.Requirements
REQUIRED
Requires knowledge equivalent to high school education.Requires a minimum of ten (10) years previous work experience using the following tools : lathe, milling machine (bridgeports, prototrak), drill press, vertical / horizontal cut off saw, and surface grinders.CAD experience requiredDESIRED
Enrolled in or Completion of Machine Tool Technology program a plusISO9001 : 2008 and ISO13485 : 2003 certification and compliance a plusPHYSICAL DEMANDS WHILE PERFORMING THE JOB
Visual acuity : near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.Hearing ability : ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes to take appropriate action.Frequently required to stand, walk, push, reach overhead, and bend to the floorFrequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controlsOccasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds.WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB
