Job Summary:
The Audiology Health Technician will deliver onsite audiology services to eligible veterans at the MVAHCS and Twin Ports CBOC. The role involves direct patient interaction, supporting the audiology team with specialized services such as hearing assessments, maintenance of audiology equipment, and patient education, following the standards set by The Joint Commission (TJC) and aligned with guidelines from The American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Audiology Support: Conduct hearing assessments and diagnostics under the supervision of licensed audiologists.
- Patient Care: Engage with patients to gather medical histories, prepare them for audiology procedures, and educate them on audiology practices and hearing aid use.
- Equipment Maintenance: Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot audiology equipment to ensure reliability and patient safety.
- Administrative Assistance: Document patient care activities, update medical records, and assist in scheduling and coordinating patient appointments.
- Compliance: Adhere to VA and facility-specific guidelines, maintain confidentiality, and uphold all regulatory and accrediting body standards.
Qualifications:
- License: Must hold a current, unrestricted license to practice in any U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth, including the District of Columbia. Candidates with restricted or suspended licenses are ineligible.
- Certification: Credentialing with the National Board for Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences (NBC-HIS) is required, with additional credentialing per VHA Directives 1100.20 and 1100.21.
- Technical Proficiency: Must demonstrate fluency in English and possess the technical skills required for audiology support functions, including data entry, diagnostic testing, and patient interactions.
- Continuing Education: Must maintain ongoing certifications, including CME requirements and mandatory VA training, such as Basic Life Support (BLS) and VA-specific courses.
Additional Requirements:
- Credentialing and Privileging: The Audiology Health Technician must obtain full privileges and approval from the Facility Medical Executive Board before beginning service.
- Training Compliance: Complete required VA training courses, including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), BLS, and CPRS, to ensure safety and high standards of patient care.
Salary:
Compensation will be determined based on experience and adherence to contract standards.
