Job Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will provide high-quality onsite patient care services for the Department of Veterans Affairs. As part of the healthcare team, CNAs will focus on assisting veterans in attaining, maintaining, or recovering optimal health and quality of life. Key Responsibilities Direct Patient Care : Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, toileting, ambulation, meal assistance, and personal hygiene. Monitoring & Reporting : Document patient behavior and physical care, reporting any changes in physical or mental status to the assigned nurse or charge nurse. Emergency Response : React promptly to emergent situations such as falls, behavioral crises, or the need for basic life support. Equipment Management : Set up and monitor oxygen tanks, suction devices, and other medical equipment as needed. Observation Services : Provide close observation, including 1 : 1 sitter services and telesitting, when required. Communication : Maintain professional communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Qualifications Certification : Active CNA certification and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA). Experience : At least one year of CNA experience within the past three years in a hospital or long-term care setting. Physical & Background Requirements : Proof of current TB testing and vaccination records. Background check clearance as per VA standards. U.S. citizenship or proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. Schedule & Work Conditions Work Hours : 8- to 12-hour shifts, covering day, evening, and overnight rotations, including weekends and holidays. Flexibility : CNAs may be called for emergency shifts with at least 4 hours' notice and must adapt to workload variations. Orientation : Participation in mandatory training and orientation sessions covering VA policies, patient safety, and infection control. Special Requirements Adherence to the VA's privacy policies and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Compliance with infection control standards, including annual TB tests and influenza vaccinations. Familiarity with the VA's Computerized Patient Recordkeeping System (CPRS) for accurate and timely documentation. Performance Standards Maintain professionalism and meet clinical standards, with a minimum acceptable quality level of 95%. Complete all mandatory training and maintain up-to-date certifications.
