Job Description Summary The Naval Field Service Technician - Drives under general guidance and minimal supervision, performs a wide range of technical tasks and ensures proper installation, service and commissioning of vital shipboard equipment. Provides technical support for installation and commissioning of projects and provides maintenance, breakdown emergency support and remote troubleshooting. Job Description Essential Responsibilities: As Naval Field Service Technician - Drives, you will: * Perform troubleshooting activities aboard ships and at select site locations to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions
* Maintain requisite documentation to execute work e.g. commissioning procedures, maintenance procedures daily logs etc.
* Perform installation and commissioning activities aboard customer vessels and select site locations
* Be capable of working unsupervised
* Under the direction of a senior engineer, perform a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of GE drive systems
* Give presentations and provide customer training on drive operation and maintenance
* Recognize additional opportunities and provide recommendations for preventative and corrective maintenance, upgrades, parts, and training to maximize customer satisfaction with installed GE Power Conversion equipment
* Promote sales of maintenance services, primarily through excellence in execution
* Perform other related technical tasks to facilitate proper commissioning and customer satisfaction
* Provide on call support in response to customer calls for service
* Complete timely service reports and other administrative requirements
* Other duties may be assigned by management to meet business needs. Qualifications/Requirements: * Minimum 3 years of field service and/or commissioning experience in a field service/ commissioning environment with Drives/Power Electronics and associated control systems
* Possess a detailed knowledge of Drives/Power Electronics in varied Naval applications and propulsion systems
* US Citizen, able to obtain/maintain SECRET security clearance Additional Eligibility Requirements: * Ability and willingness to travel 75% of the time Desired Characteristics: * Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited university and 3 years related field service experience OR 8 years of related field service experience with Drives/Power Electronics and associated control systems.
* Experience with GE Drive systems (practicable working knowledge of GE Power Conversion/Alstom/Converteam products including: MV7000; SD7000; MV3000; VDM25000)
* Practicable working knowledge of at least one GE Power Conversion drive/system controller (Including PEC, PECe, CDC)
* Ability to travel to destinations in the USA or overseas at very short notice to troubleshoot existing Marine Power, propulsion, and control systems.
* Ability to learn and follow defined departmental policies, procedures, and practices.
* Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills essential.
* Must be able to interact and communicate with internal customers. Internal customers may include production, engineers, and management personnel. * Ability to prioritize workload and organize work activities to meet business needs and department goals. * Must be able to independently arrange and organize work efforts on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis. Must be able to meet tight deadlines. Ability to multi-task on a consistent basis.
* Demonstrates a high degree of personal and professional ethics and integrity.
