Job Summary
An anesthesiologist provides pain relief and maintenance or restoration of a stable condition during and immediately following an operation or an obstetric or diagnostic procedure. They also provide medical management and consultation in pain management and critical care medicine.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interview patients to obtain information such as symptoms, medical histories, and family histories.
- Perform and/or interpret diagnostic tests as needed.
- Diagnose and design a plan of treatment for injuries and/or illness.
- Prescribe or administer medications.
- Prepare, maintain, and review records that include patients' histories, examination findings, treatment plans, or outcomes.
Work Environment
The work is typically performed in a clinical and office environment. The anesthesiologist is accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
Education and Certification
A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree is required. Additionally, a licensed medical doctor certification from the state of Pennsylvania is necessary.
