**Nurse Practitioner Behavioral Health Job Summary**
In collaboration with the physician, provides care to new or established patients. Demonstrates autonomy through patient evaluation, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care.
Key Responsibilities
- Triage, telephone communication, and patient education in cooperation with nursing staff, physicians, and other department personnel.
- Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic testing, consults as appropriate, and prescribes medical therapy utilizing evidence-based practice.
- Prescribes, adjusts, or discontinues medications or therapies as needed.
- Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any circumstances that present a significant risk to patient health or well-being.
- Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, primary care physician, and referring staff via telephone or correspondence.
Instills confidence in patients by providing safe, ethical care and health education in a language they can understand. Interprets and follows policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.
Expected to participate in call rotation on a shared basis with a large pool of providers. Accountable for satisfying all job-specific obligations and complying with Geisinger organization policies and procedures.
