ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join our team supporting the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) at their Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory ! This position is full-time and will be based out of West Mifflin, PA with up to 20% remote work.
Responsibilities
- Support the Naval Nuclear Laboratory in developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology for the safety and reliability of our Navy's submarine and aircraft carrier fleet.
- Join team as part of the Propulsion Plant Team Trainer (PPTT) project, which is a multi-site organization engaged in the design, production, testing, and delivery of advanced training simulators.
- Collaborate with engineers to create or modify designs (SolidWorks) and drawings (eDrawings, PDF, etc.) for PPTT equipment.
- Provide input related to designs' manufacturability, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Provide input to the material selection for components based on performance requirements, durability and cost-effectiveness.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is comprised of the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory located in Niskayuna, New York, the Kesselring Site, located in West Milton, New York, and the Naval Reactor Facility located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together, they develop advanced technology for the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, ensure the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors, and train Sailors who operate reactors in submarines and aircraft carrier fleets (energy.gov).
