Summary:
As the property accountant, you will be responsible for a full monthly accounting cycle in supporting accounts payable and receivable, budgeting and generating accurate and timely financial statements. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and have strong time management, analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. Must also be detail-oriented and organized and meet set deadlines.
Must work closely with onsite Property Managers to ensure set procedures are followed and processed in a timely fashion.
Essential Job Functions:
Manage full-cycle accounting for assigned properties, including monthly close procedures- Become the subject matter expert and resource for areas of responsibility
- Assist in budget preparation and reforecasting processes
- Assist with management and analysis of apartment rehab projects
- Review property operating expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities
- Analyze financial statements monthly, report on variances (budget vs actual) and hold properties accountable
- Collaborate with Property Managers and Regional Property Managers on financial performance issues
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reporting for senior leadership
- Improve systems and procedures, analyze variances and initiate corrective action
- Maintain overall integrity of financial records for a portfolio of real estate communities and communicate with field personnel on areas of concern
- Reconcile various general ledger accounts
Ensure accurate general ledger classifications and make adjustments as needed
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, project management, or equivalent in experience.
Experience:
- 2 years experience in an intermediate to high level roles in Accounting and Property Management
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of Accounting principles and mathematics
- Knowledge of Accounting software databases
- Knowledge of and previous experience with budgeting and forecasting
Skills:
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently.
- A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience with property management software; Real Page experience preferred
- Working knowledge of GAAP, and their proper application within property management
- Effective organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects
