Job Summary
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role in providing compassionate and supportive care to patients in various healthcare settings, including inpatient and outpatient environments. The PCA assists with daily living activities, ensuring the comfort and well-being of patients while working collaboratively with healthcare professionals. This position is essential in promoting a positive patient experience within hospitals, clinics, and teaching hospitals.
Duties
- Provide personal care to patients, including assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Support patients with mobility and physical activities as needed.
- Monitor and record vital signs and report any changes to nursing staff.
- Assist in meal preparation and feeding for patients who require help.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients by following infection control protocols.
- Engage with patients to provide emotional support and companionship.
- Assist healthcare professionals in various tasks related to patient care in settings such as PICU, Medical-surgical units, Emergency medicine departments, Operating Rooms (OR), and outpatient clinics.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance skills related to hospital medicine and patient care techniques.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Personal Care Assistant or in a similar role is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with healthcare settings such as inpatient facilities, outpatient clinics, or teaching hospitals is advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Compassionate nature with a commitment to providing high-quality care.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays as needed.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology related to care practices in various departments such as PICU, Emergency medicine, or Medical-surgical units is a plus.

Pay: $16.35 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
