Position Title: Peer Support Specialist

Salary Range: $25.00 - $28.00 per Hour

Summary of Major Responsibilities:
The Peer Support Specialist at Genesis Recovery plays a vital role in providing support and guidance to clients by drawing upon their personal lived experience with substance use disorder. Reporting to the Care Coordinator, this individual uses their unique perspective to connect with and empower clients on their recovery journey.
Detailed Duty Statement:
- Utilize personal experiences to inspire hope, provide empathy, and guide clients facing substance use disorder challenges.
- Establish trusting relationships with clients to promote motivation, self-advocacy, and personal growth in recovery.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to complement treatment plans and support clients in achieving their wellness goals.
- Facilitate peer-led support groups and recovery-focused activities to promote peer-to-peer connections and mutual understanding.
- Assist clients in navigating resources, services, and community support systems to enhance their recovery journey.
- Maintain appropriate boundaries and confidentiality while sharing personal experiences in a supportive and therapeutic manner.
- Participate in regular supervision meetings with the Care Coordinator to discuss client progress, challenges, and successes.
- If not already certified, complete the required training to become a certified Peer Support Specialist within 60 days of employment.
- Collaborate with other Peer Support Specialists and clinical staff to ensure a cohesive and holistic approach to client care.
- Advocate for the client's needs and preferences within the treatment team and assist in treatment planning discussions.
- Document client interactions and progress notes accurately and promptly to support continuity of care.

Qualifications Needed:
- Lived experience with substance use disorder and a strong commitment to sharing personal experiences to support others in recovery.
- Certification as a Peer Support Specialist or obtaining certification within 60 days of employment.
- Understanding and adhering to Peer Support Specialist roles' ethical guidelines and boundaries.
- Excellent communication and active listening skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients effectively.
- Knowledge of recovery-oriented principles, trauma-informed care, and empowerment-based approaches.
- Cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds and experiences of clients.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a positive and supportive treatment environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to document client interactions accurately and promptly.
