Position Overview:
The Controller will play a crucial role in managing the firm’s financial health and reporting. This individual will oversee accounting operations, compliance with regulations, and internal controls, while providing strategic financial guidance to support organizational growth. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in commercial real estate accounting, strong leadership skills, and a proven ability to drive process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare budgets and manage financial reporting to support the firm’s strategic goals.
- Advise management on financial matters, providing insights for decision-making.
- Oversee accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring professional development and teamwork.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with accounting regulations.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
- Monitor cash flow, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure financial stability and growth.
- Support property accounting and financial reporting for real estate assets, including acquisition and disposition activities.
- Conduct variance analysis and prepare management reports to assist in strategic decision-making.
- Collaborate with external auditors during the annual audit process and address any findings.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and trends to enhance the firm’s financial practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA designation strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Prior experience in commercial real estate accounting is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems; familiarity with Yardi or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
