Job Summary
The Director of Data Science is a strategic and hands-on leadership role responsible for building and scaling GeoComm’s data science capabilities. This leader will drive the development of GIS related AI/ML models, predictive analytics, and data-driven decision-making to enhance the company’s product offerings, operational efficiencies, and customer success. Working closely with the VP of Engineering, Product Management, and other business leaders, the Director of Data Science will ensure alignment with GeoComm’s Product-Led Growth (PLG) strategy and Outcome-Based Business Model, delivering high-value AI-powered insights and automation to public safety, K-12, AEC, and facilities management markets. The Director of Data Science will oversee AI strategy execution, manage cross-functional collaborations, and play a pivotal role in integrating AI/ML solutions into GeoComm’s GIS software platform, including GeoComm I/O and GeoComm Experience Cloud.
Essential Specific Job Duties
1. Strategic AI & Data Science Leadership
- Define and implement a data science strategy that aligns with GeoComm’s PLG and outcome-based business objectives.
- Lead AI and ML innovation to develop real-time predictive analytics, business continuity solutions, and AI-assisted decision-making capabilities.
- Align AI initiatives with GeoComm’s technology roadmap, including GIS, BIM, blockchain, and cybersecurity.
- Identify and build strategic AI partnerships with technology vendors, research institutions, and data providers.
2. AI/ML Model Development & Integration
- Oversee the development and deployment of AI/ML models for GeoComm’s products and internal operations.
- Work with engineering teams to ensure scalable integration of AI into the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Implement AI-driven data transformation, cleansing, and enrichment processes for improved data quality and insights.
3. Data-Driven Product Innovation
- Partner with Product Management to integrate AI-driven capabilities that enhance customer outcomes.
- Ensure AI/ML models drive real-time decision support, automation, and efficiency for public safety, security, and smart buildings.
- Develop AI-powered recommendation systems and risk assessment tools to improve situational awareness and emergency response.
4. Operational & Team Leadership
- Build and mentor a high-performing data science team, hiring ML engineers, data scientists, and AI specialists.
- Establish best practices for AI model governance, compliance, and security, ensuring ethical AI development.
- Define AI/ML KPIs and success metrics, tracking impact across products, operations, and customer adoption.
5. Collaboration & Cross-Functional Alignment
- Work closely with engineering, product, and business teams to ensure AI/ML initiatives are aligned with company objectives.
- Act as a thought leader and advocate for AI-driven decision-making within GeoComm.
- Represent GeoComm’s AI capabilities in external forums, conferences, and industry collaborations.

Minimum Job Requirements
Education: |
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in AI, ML, or Advanced Analytics is preferred.

Experience: |
? 10 years of experience in data science, AI/ML, or analytics, preferably within SaaS, GIS, public safety, AEC, or IoT-driven industries. ? Proven ability to deploy AI/ML models at scale in production environments. ? Experience in leading AI strategy, data governance, and machine learning operations (MLOps). ? Expertise in AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and data pipelines. ? Demonstrated success in managing cross-functional AI/ML projects with measurable impact. ? Experience with distributed computing frameworks (Apache Spark, Hadoop) and real-time data processing. ? Knowledge of ethical AI & governance: AI/ML regulations, responsible AI principles, and bias mitigation. ? Experience working in Scaled Agile (SAFe), Kanban, or Scrum environments with AI/ML-focused product teams. ? Cross-Industry experience: exposure to public safety, security, GIS, digital twins, or AEC industries, providing insight into AI-driven business transformation.

- MLOps & AI Deployment: Hands-on experience with MLOps frameworks (Kubeflow, MLflow, DataRobot) and continuous AI model integration and deployment.
- Deep Learning & Computer Vision: Practical experience in NLP, computer vision, and reinforcement learning, particularly in GIS, smart buildings, or public safety applications.
- Cloud & Edge AI Experience: Understanding of cloud-based AI solutions (AWS SageMaker, Google Vertex AI, Azure AI) and AI inference at the edge for IoT applications.
- Cybersecurity & AI Ethics: Knowledge of AI security, ethical AI development, and bias mitigation in machine learning models.
- Leadership & Change Management: Training in executive leadership, change management, and cross-functional collaboration, ensuring effective AI adoption across GeoComm.
- Data Governance & Compliance: Familiarity with GDPR, CCPA, and AI compliance frameworks to ensure responsible AI development.
