Summary:

The Safety & Hazmat Supervisor is responsible for ensuring a safe working environment for employees that is free of recognized hazards, as well ensuring that hazmat compliance is maintained according to company expectations. The position is responsible for ensuring warehouse safety and hazmat compliance for multiple accounts and shifts, to include: training, documentation, audits, and reporting.

Job Duties: 1 - 2

·         Reduces the number of job related accidents and injuries

·         Ensures employees are trained in proper safety and hazmat protocols according to regulations and company policies

·         Coordinates and conducts classroom training to Management and hourly teams, to include: “powered industrial truck” training, hazmat, and behavioral safety training

·         Oversees the account Trainers for PIT, BST, and Hazmat

·         Identifies and develops PIT, BST, and Hazmat trainers with Corporate support

·     Assist the Safety Committee and Master Trainer POW WOW Chair with meetings and follow up as needed

·         Partners with Corporate EHS team to ensure compliance and drive performance

·         Develops and communicates daily, weekly, and monthly safety topics as needed

·         Develops and implements training documentation changes, signage, and 5S projects

·         Ensures compliance for DOT, FAA, and OSHA regulations

·         Prepares each account for unannounced regulatory visits (OSHA, DOT, FAA, etc) based on Corporate direction and annual Corporate Compliance Audits

·         Conducts weekly & monthly audits for compliance

·         Promotes & supports employee annual Safety Week and Top Gun events

·         Manages employee safety and hazmat documentation

·         Conducts and communicates post-accident reports and investigations

·     Maintains “Train the Trainer” status for DOT, IATA, IMDG, and Lithium Battery

·     Maintains “Train the Trainer” status for RCRA and Universal Waste

·     Maintains “Train the Trainer” status for PIT Part A, PIT Part B, and BST

·    Conducts internal Corporate Compliance Audits

·         Manages action log of safety improvements and communicate Corporate EHS analytics routinely (injuries, property damage, near misses, etc.)

·         Provides routine recaps on building safety and hazmat compliance status

·         Works different shifts as needed to support training and audits

·         Other duties as required and assigned

Requirements:

 

·         High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalency

·         Bachelor’s degree from a 4 year college or university preferred

·         Minimum 2 to 4 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

·         Experience with warehouse equipment

·         Working knowledge of the following: CFR 29 Labor (OSHA) and CFR 49 Transportation (DOT)

·         Knowledge in the storage, handling and shipping of hazardous materials

·         Knowledge of NFPA regulations with regards to flammable liquids, corrosives, etc.

·         PC literate to include Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook

 

·         Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

·         Ability to conduct training classes for audiences at all levels of the organization

·         Ability to develop and proof training materials

·         Proven presentation and facilitation skills

·         Ability to write reports and correspondence

·         Ability to solve practical problems

·         Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and temperate climate conditions.
