What are the responsibilities and job description for the Reading Interventionist position at George Washington Carver Elementary?

The Neosho School District is searching for a full time Reading Interventionist for the 2025/2026 school year.  

 

The Reading Interventionist is responsible for providing targeted reading instruction to students who require additional support in literacy. The interventionist collaborates with teachers, administrators, and support staff to implement evidence-based reading strategies, assess student progress, and foster a positive learning environment that promotes literacy development.

Instruction & Intervention

  • Provide small-group and one-on-one reading interventions based on student needs.

  • Implement research-based instructional strategies to support struggling readers.

  • Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with disabilities and English Language Learners (ELLs).

  • Utilize technology and literacy tools to enhance reading instruction.

Assessment & Progress Monitoring

  • Conduct literacy assessments to identify students in need of intervention.

  • Use data-driven decision-making to track student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate results to teachers, administrators, and parents as needed.

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with classroom teachers to align reading interventions with core curriculum.

  • Provide professional development and coaching to staff on effective literacy strategies.

  • Participate Response to Intervention (RTI) teams.

  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress and strategies for supporting literacy at home.

Compliance & Professional Growth

  • Stay current with best practices in literacy instruction and intervention.

  • Ensure compliance with Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) literacy guidelines.

  • Attend required training, workshops, and professional development sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading/Literacy, or a related field required; Master’s degree in Reading/Literacy preferred.

  • Certification: Valid Missouri teaching license; Reading Specialist or Literacy endorsement preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience, preferably in reading or literacy instruction.
