The Associate Director of Graduate Fellowships and Awards is responsible for the overall development and expansion of sponsored research awards, fellowships, private grants, and awards to graduate students across various programs, including Biomedical Sciences at the GUMC. This position plays a crucial role in securing external financial support to enhance the academic and research endeavors of Georgetown's graduate student community. By increasing the number and monetary value of external awards, the Associate Director contributes to the university's strategic goal of supporting scholarly excellence and fostering national recognition.

This position is also tasked with managing a faculty research review committee, facilitating the review process for internal grants and awards such as research travel grants and the Healy Fellowships, and promoting funding opportunities for graduate students through workshops, informational sessions, and newsletters. The Associate Director will serve as the Project Director for federally funded fellowship programs, oversee the management of awards, and build and maintain relationships with external funding organizations, including the ARCS Foundation, Herbert Roback Foundation, and Bryce Harlow Foundation. Additionally, the position works closely with students to educate them on available funding, offer grant-writing workshops, one-on-one advising on fellowship and grant applications and proposals. Duties include but are not limited to :

Develop strategies to expand grant and fellowship opportunities and funding.

Collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance funding opportunities and support student applications.

Cultivate relationships with funding agencies and private donors.

Monitor external funding trends and recommend strategies to increase competitiveness.

Manage the “Office of Graduate Fellowships & Awards” website, newsletter, and maintain an awards database.

Create and lead funding and grant-writing workshops and provide one-on-one advising to students.

Work Interactions

This position reports to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the Graduate School. This position also will work closely with the Office of Advancement and Corporate and Foundation Relations, the Graduate Career Center, the Office of Student Financial Services, Joint Office for Research Administration, Office of Regulatory Affairs, Sponsored Accounting, Office of the Provost, Biomedical Graduate Education office, Research Development Services office, Office of Global Services, Center for Research and Fellowships, the Office of the Registrar, the Military and Veterans’ Services Center, and the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research, as well as departmental chairs, administrators, and principal investigators who are directly involved with graduate student fellowship, grant, and other sponsored award funding. This position also works closely with the Graduate Admissions Team and the Director of Graduate Student Affairs, to create a comprehensive recruitment plan for prospective applicants, including a communications plan for accepted or admitted applicants.

This position is responsible for fostering strong relationships with students, providing guidance and support throughout their academic and professional journeys. The role provides ongoing guidance through individual consultations, helping students navigate funding opportunities, improve their grant-writing skills, and access the resources necessary for their academic and professional success. This position may serve as the PI or PD on certain institutional submissions, as well as serve as the application manager in Research.gov, G5 / 6, IRIS.gov, etc. on behalf of student applicants applying to various federal competitions. Occasionally, the individual also may be called upon to serve on ad hoc reviews or to help facilitate reviews or mock reviews for the Center for Research & Fellowships (CFR), serving the undergraduate population. The individual must continue to work closely with the Academic Support and Oversight and Merit Aid teams for practical issues of registration and talent identification but should also share resources with Admissions, Career, and Student Enrichment.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of grant or contract experience required. Master’s degree or 5 years in fellowship advising or sponsored research experience preferred; CRA certification desirable

Strong writing, communication, and editing skills; experience with designing or leading workshops preferred

Service-oriented attitude, especially with respect to student

Ability to manage multiple projects within a given

Pay Range :

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is :

47,586.00 - $87,558.13

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
