SUMMER INTERNSHIP: LAW STUDENT INTERN

GEORGIA LEGAL SERVICES PROGRAM INC
Atlanta, GA Intern
POSTED ON 3/25/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 5/25/2025

Description

The Farmworker Rights Division of Georgia Legal Services Program (FWRD-GLSP) seeks to hire a law

student intern to support our advocacy on behalf of clients with claims of unpaid wages, breach of

employment contract, employment discrimination, and other violations related to their employment in

agriculture, including labor trafficking.

About the Farmworker Rights Division:

The FWRD provides free legal representation to eligible farmworkers with employment-related matters

in Georgia. Typical cases involve employers failing to pay workers’ wages; discrimination based on sex,

citizenship or national origin; subjecting workers to human trafficking conditions; and breaking

recruitment promises. Clients include guest workers from Latin America, in addition to local and migrant

U.S. farmworkers.

About the Internship Position:

The tasks assigned to our summer interns vary depending on the current needs of our office. Interns will

be expected to participate in outreach visits to farmworkers throughout rural Georgia; research facts

and interview clients and potential clients to develop new cases and support current cases; research

legal issues and draft legal memoranda; support our litigation and administrative advocacy work as

needed; and help with the victim representation and preparation of immigration applications for

trafficking victims.

The Farmworker Rights Division is housed in GLSP’s central office in Atlanta, providing interns an

opportunity to work alongside other advocates committed to combating poverty and injustice. The legal

intern will also work closely with our Director of the Farmworker Rights Division, the Farmworker Rights

staff, and fellow interns.

Requirements

• Spanish language fluency strongly preferred

• Ability to work and communicate well with a diverse group of people

• Willingness to travel within Georgia

• Strong legal research and writing skills

• Commitment to social justice

Additional Information:

The internship lasts ten consecutive weeks during the 2024 Summer (Dates flexible to accommodate

school schedule). A stipend is available for law students without institutional funding.

The selected intern(s) will work from the Atlanta Central office of the Georgia Legal Services Program.

Partial telework may be available on a case-by-case basis, as determined by the division’s Director.

HOW TO APPLY:

Please send a statement of interest (cover letter) and resume to: hsmith@glsp.org. Interviews will be

conducted virtually.
