SUMMARY
The Traffic Coordinator is responsible for managing the scheduling, coordination, and tracking of outbound shipments within a food manufacturing environment. This role ensures timely deliveries, maintains compliance with food safety and transportation regulations, and supports the logistics team in optimizing shipping and receiving processes. The Traffic Coordinator plays a critical role in maintaining smooth warehouse operations, minimizing delays, and enhancing overall supply chain efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Outbound Logistics Management:
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate all outbound shipments to align with production and distribution requirements.
- Collaborate with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure timely and efficient movement of goods.
- Monitor and track shipments, proactively addressing delays or issues to minimize disruptions.
- Maintain real-time communication with warehouse personnel to ensure smooth loading and unloading processes.
- Confirm shipments meet regulatory and company standards before departure or receipt.
Shipping & Documentation Compliance:
- Prepare and verify shipping documents, including bills of lading, freight invoices, packing lists, and certificates of analysis.
- Ensure all shipments comply with FDA, USDA, DOT, and company food safety requirements.
- Work closely with quality assurance and compliance teams to prevent cross-contamination and maintain proper storage conditions.
- Maintain accurate records of all shipments, ensuring proper documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
Carrier Coordination & Freight Management:
- Schedule and coordinate transportation services with third-party carriers, freight brokers, and internal fleet drivers.
- Negotiate freight rates and confirm contract terms with carriers to ensure cost-effective shipping solutions.
- Monitor carrier performance, including on-time deliveries, service levels, and damage claims.
- Assist in resolving freight discrepancies, damage claims, and invoice disputes with carriers and vendors.
Inventory & Warehouse Support:
- Work closely with warehouse and production teams to prioritize shipments and ensure inventory levels are maintained.
- Assist in cycle counts, inventory reconciliation, and stock movement tracking.
- Support the logistics team in optimizing warehouse space utilization and workflow efficiency.
Process Improvement & Safety Compliance:
- Identify opportunities for improving logistics processes, reducing transportation costs, and enhancing efficiency.
- Assist in implementing best practices for inventory control, shipment tracking, and warehouse organization.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations, including proper handling of food products and hazardous materials.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in traffic coordination, logistics, or transportation, preferably in a food manufacturing environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and logistics software; experience with ERP or WMS systems is a plus.
- Communication & Organization: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to analyze issues, think critically, and resolve transportation-related challenges proactively.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with DOT, FDA, USDA, and food safety compliance requirements for transportation and logistics.
Salary : $17 - $21
