Laboratory Technician I- Bacteriology

We provide monitoring and diagnostic services from farm to table to contribute to the safety and health of poultry flocks, eggs, and poultry products.

Who we Are:

“We support the poultry industry and other bird owners by providing health monitoring and veterinary diagnostic services specific to poultry. We are in partnership with the poultry industry, government agencies and other laboratories for the prevention, management, and control of poultry disease outbreaks statewide. We participate in emergency preparedness programs for Avian Influenza and Exotic Newcastle Disease.”

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Work shift: Tuesday -Saturday

1. Receive specimens in the laboratory and into LIMs

2. Proficient in aseptic and sterile techniques

3. Maintain a clean work environment, daily disinfection of laboratory space

4. Monthly inventory

5. Enrichment and plating of Salmonella cultures

6. Hatchery plate reading

7. Proficient in performing Vitek and printing results

8. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Lead Tech

Job Skills

Required: Basic computer skills, ability to follow written directions

Aseptic and sterile technique

Ability to work independently or as a team. Can work in a fast-paced environment with great attention to detail

Knowledge of metric system

Job Experience

Preferred: Some laboratory experience

Education & Training

Required: High school diploma or GED

Preferred: College courses in a biology related field

Physical Requirements

Required: Lift 20 pounds, manual dexterity

Job Type: Full-time
