Project / Unit Description
GTRI’s Advanced Concepts Laboratory (ACL) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Research Program Manager serving in the role of Lab Execution Lead. This position involves program execution duties for sponsored programs as well as internal operational initiatives. The successful candidate will work directly with the Director of ACL to enhance research project execution, to include : the management of portfolios of sponsored programs to ensure financial, schedule, and reporting success; management of critical organizational infrastructure affecting project execution; development of data capture processes and analysis to support key decisions affecting program capture and execution; development and maintenance of consistent procedures for project initiation, execution, and close-out; and development and documentation of organizational best practices that support the research enterprise. The candidate will focus on anticipating challenges and developing solutions to issues such as staffing, recruiting, procurement, technical meeting preparation and communications, and other matters affecting sponsor satisfaction. This role will require direct interface with sponsor representatives occasionally, so experience working in a DoD project environment is required.
Job Purpose
The Research Program Manager directs and oversees a portfolio of research projects that includes internal and external sponsor and stakeholder engagement. The Research Program Manager is responsible both for the oversight of technical execution, schedule, and budget of assigned portfolios. Specifically, the Research Program Manager develops the planning of programs and future projects through routine interactions with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee technical government programs which are of relatively medium risk and medium complexity
- Ensure that all required resources such as engineering expertise, manpower, production, computer infrastructure, facilities, etc. are available for the program
- Build multi-disciplinary teams across the organization
- Plan, direct, and monitor program budgets and serve as primary sponsor contact for program information inquiries
- Oversee delivery of project deliverables
- Author and contribute to project deliverables
- Coordinate schedules, briefing materials, minutes and logistics associated with project meetings
- Direct program growth by proposing new ideas to sponsors and marketing new technology or follow-on business opportunities
- Understand and present GTRI core competencies and lab capabilities to external sponsors and stakeholders
- Maintain an understanding of various sponsors' interests in a given technical area
- Coordinate with program development leads and GTRI support units on large proposals and training curriculum
