As part of the North American logistics team, you will report to the corporate regional logistic manager. You will provide analysis, technical support, and truck carrier communications to maintain transportation structures, systems, and ongoing freight services for Gerdau Long Steel North America. You will be responsible for assisting with the negotiation of proposals, establishing and verifying shipping procedures, and analyzing shipping data to look for opportunities and identify market trends. You will assist in the development of policies, guidelines, and procedures to ensure high-quality, low-cost shipping opportunities. You will assist regional logistics managers in soliciting quotes and maintaining rate and freight tracking systems. Daily, you will communicate with outside transportation service providers, fulfillment, dispatch, warehouse teams, logistics managers, regional transportation managers, and mill shipping supervisors to obtain or provide information to meet logistics needs.

- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- 2 -4 years of trucking logistics experience in a logistics related field.
- Experience with the use of freight systems/relational data bases (SAP, Intellitrans TMS, Princeton TMX, Excel, Power BI, etc.) and query/report development.
- Knowledge of supply chain, freight concepts, practices and procedures and a strong analytical and mathematical aptitude.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making capabilities a must.
- Ability to analyze data sets, assess trends or patterns and make recommendations based on data (quantitative) and situational factors (qualitative).
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced work environment.

Daily, you will communicate with outside transportation service providers, fulfillment, dispatch, warehouse teams, logistics managers, regional transportation managers, and mill shipping supervisors to obtain or provide information to meet logistics needs.
Your Work
- Provide support day-to-day activities associated with the management of Logistics programs to ensure programs are in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and company policy and are reviewed for continuous improvement.
- Maintain the freight rate tracking program, calculate various transportation rates, update system, track communications and negotiated rates, and enter or review invoices in a timely manner.
- Assist with reconciliation, payment and monitoring of vendors. This may include accounts payable payments and assess performance standards for outside logistics vendors.
- Assist in investigating payment discrepancies, resolving issues related to incorrect data entry.
- Maintain the fuel surcharge table as the National Fuel Index dictates.
- Assist with assessing data to assist management with department budget monitoring (Expense Management). Assists with budget reviews and monitoring payments.
- Proactively identify logistics challenges and opportunities and recommend creative and practical solutions and strategies to resolve and/or capitalize on opportunities.
- Maintain physical carrier files and contracts, prepares and submits Freight Claim documentation with Transportation Vendors in accordance with policy, and disseminates claim information to Gerdau logistics, commercial, and financial personnel as needed.
- Conducts distribution and network studies, monitors inventory and assesses requirements to develop strategies to achieve desired delivery times and order fill rates.
- Independently assesses new rate proposals, economic conditions, increases, and rate changes as needed to evaluate carrier competitiveness and advise on the acceptance or rejection of carrier rate proposals.
- Create and maintain reports and dashboards in Power BI. Acts as center of excellence for preparing reports and presentations for department members.
- Participate in benchmarking activities for the logistics area on a regular (i.e., annual) or ad-hoc basis.
- Assist and respond to audit requests from external and internal parties. Document internal processes, procedures and administration as appropriate for audit requirements. Facilitate annual audit preparation and completion.
- Develop and document internal processes and procedures to promote consistency, process improvement and simplicity in the logistics area.
- Ensure constant data integrity with internal systems (ex: SAP), external systems (ex: Transporeon), vendor file interfaces, etc.
